WINDSOR, ENGLAND - Queen Elizabeth will bid a final farewell to Prince Philip, her husband of more than seven decades, at a ceremonial funeral on Saturday, with the nation set to fall silent to mark the passing of a pivotal figure in the British monarchy. While the ceremony will include some of the traditional grandeur of a significant royal event, there will be just 30 mourners inside St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle for the funeral service because of COVID-19 restrictions. There will be no public procession, all the congregation will wear masks, and the queen, who says the death has left a "huge void," will sit alone. "She's the queen, she will behave with the extraordinary dignity and extraordinary courage that she always does. And at the same time, she is saying farewell to someone to who she was married for 73 years," said Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury, who will help officiate at the service. He said he expected the funeral to resonate with the millions of … [Read more...] about Queen Elizabeth and Britain to Bid Farewell to Prince Philip

Unpredictable House race ahead for western Colorado after Boebert ousts Tipton
By ousting a five-term Republican congressman in this week’s primary, Lauren Boebert may have handed Democrats their best shot in years at taking back Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District. At least that’s what they hope, judging by a national Democratic committee’s almost gleeful attempt — after her primary victory Tuesday over U.S. Rep. Even fellow Democrats say their nominee, Diane Mitsch Bush, 70, a former lawmaker and Routt County commissioner, brings her own political liabilities. She lost to Tipton two years ago by 8 percentage points, despite outspending him. “One thing (Tipton’s primary loss) shows is that in a time when people are really justifiably anxious for … [Read more...] about Unpredictable House race ahead for western Colorado after Boebert ousts Tipton
Lauren Boebert beat a Colorado congressman. Is she the next GOP star?
Ever since the Democratic wave of 2018, Travis Oliger, chair of the La Plata County Republican Party, has come to expect low turnout at the candidate meet-and-greets he arranges. But earlier this year, when he looked out at a meet-and-greet crowd in his Democratic-leaning southwest Colorado county , there were a lot of young, unfamiliar faces and they were there to see a little-known candidate for Congress named Lauren Boebert . “It was kind of like with Trump,” Oliger recalls of that unusually large gathering. “People showed up and came out to support Trump and they would tell me, ‘I’m not here to support the party, I really don’t like the Republicans, but I’m for Trump’ and it was like, ‘Wow, really?’ This is very similar.” Boebert, a 33-year-old restaurant owner, pulled off the summer’s biggest political upset on June 30, toppling incumbent Republican Rep. Scott Tipton in Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District , a massive area that spans the western half of the state, … [Read more...] about Lauren Boebert beat a Colorado congressman.
