Jim Ayello Indianapolis Star Published 12:34 PM EDT Nov 3, 2018 INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indiana Pacers are going to have their hands full tonight. Not only will they take on a lethal Boston Celtics squad that has rattled off four consecutive victories -- including Thursday's night 117-113 win against the previously unbeaten Milwaukee Bucks -- but one that is nearing a return to full strength. Point guard Kyrie Irving is looking more and more like the all-world player he was before missing the majority of last year's playoffs with a knee injury, while Gordon Hayward seems to be rounding back into form, as well. After suffering one of the most gruesome injuries in NBA history -- a broken leg that required a pair of surgeries and exhaustive rehab to heal -- the former Butler Bulldogs star is starting to resemble his old self. Boston Celtics star Gordon Hayward is continuing to progress, according to his latest blog for The Player's Tribune. Hayward, who has been working with a running specialist in Indianapolis during the Celtics' playoff run, posted a lengthy article on how proud he is of his Celtics teammates for making the Eastern Conference Finals. But first, he gave an update on his health. "I know everybody is curious about where things stand with my rehab," Hayward wrote. "It's all been going really well. I'm happy to report I'm feeling like an athlete again. I've been in Indianapolis for the last couple weeks making some really good progress. I leave the hotel every morning at about 9:30 am and don't get back til about 6 pm. We do a lot of running mechanics, physical therapy, a lift of some sort, and then court work for another few hours. It's a full day, every day. I'm definitely moving along as planned, and progressing really well." Before you ask: No, this doesn't mean Hayward is coming back … [Read more...] about Gordon Hayward Injury: Boston Celtics star improving, ‘feeling like an athlete again

As the Boston Celtics defeated the Milwaukee Bucks in Game 1 of their first round series on Sunday, three of Boston's four walking wounded sat on the bench with the team -- Kyrie Irving, Marcus Smart and Daniel Theis. Their presence prompted a logical question: Where was Celtics star Gordon Hayward? Danny Ainge told NBC Sports Boston's Abby Chin that Hayward won't be with the team early in the playoffs as he rehabs in Indiana. Per Chin, Hayward will train with a "leading specialist" with whom the Celtics are familiar as he works on his running mechanics. Ainge also told Chin that Hayward is progressing nicely as he starts running for the first time. Hayward still has no timeline for a return, but the Celtics have repeatedly said Hayward will miss the rest of the season and focus on a healthy return to training camp (despite Hayward's refusal to admit the same). With Kyrie Irving out for the rest of the year, Hayward's continued absence seems like a foregone … [Read more...] about Gordon Hayward Injury: Boston Celtics star won’t be with team early in playoffs, rehabbing in Indiana
WALTHAM -- The Boston Celtics' path to the playoffs has wound and twisted around itself all season, as injuries forced young players into major roles they likely didn't expect to inherit. According to Celtics guard Terry Rozier, it was the first injury that shaped the Celtics' mindset. "There's been a chip on the shoulder since (Gordon) Hayward went down," Rozier said. "You hear a lot of people doubting us from that point. We went on the 16-game winning streak and everybody hopped back on the bandwagon. That's just how it goes. We understand that, but we have to come out with a chip." The Celtics will need whatever they can get against a Milwaukee Bucks team that features Giannis Antetokounmpo in the first round. Playing without Hayward and Kyrie Irving, both of whom are finished for the season, the Celtics have gone from a borderline championship contender to a team that might be an underdog in its own 2-vs-7 first-round series. "We're not worried about what anybody else says," … [Read more...] about Boston Celtics’ Terry Rozier: Celtics have had chip on shoulder since Gordon Hayward’s injury
