LONDON (AP) – Queen Elizabeth II has expressed her thanks for all the “support and kindness” shown following the death of her husband, Prince Philip. In a statement Wednesday posted on social media on her 95th birthday and which she personally signed off as Elizabeth R, the monarch said it has been “a comfort” to “see and to hear all the tributes to my husband” from within the U.K., the Commonwealth and around the world. “My family and I would like to thank you all for the support and kindness shown to us in recent days,” she said in her first remarks since Philip’s funeral on Saturday. “We have been deeply touched, and continue to be reminded that Philip had such an extraordinary impact on countless people throughout his life,” she added. The queen said she had received “many messages of good wishes” for her 95th birthday, which she “very much” appreciated. She is marking her birthday in a low-key fashion at Windsor Castle. Jamal Murray-less Nuggets “still can make noise” in NBA Playoffs. But how much?
George Karl’s heart went out to Nuggets coach Michael Malone this past Monday night. All 50 million pieces of it. “When that stuff happens, you just get a heaviness — your stomach gets ugly,” Karl, the former Nuggets coach told The Post when asked about Jamal Murray’s gruesome knee injury. “Those moments, you have trouble speaking. It’s just like it freezes you, and it’s hard to say anything. It hurts.” He’s been there. On April 4, 2013, Karl’s Nuggets experienced a shock to the system similar to when Murray went down Monday night at Golden State. It was eight years earlier that Nuggets forward Danilo Gallinari blew out his left knee during a home win over Dallas. Like Murray, the Italian was the Nuggets’ second-leading scorer at the time of his injury. “(Murray) was the man,” Karl said of the Nuggets’ star guard, who tore his left anterior cruciate ligament while driving to the hoop, a fall that ended his season . “He and (Nikola) Jokic took turns carrying the team, and … [Read more...] about Jamal Murray-less Nuggets “still can make noise” in NBA Playoffs. Nuggets considering free agents Austin Rivers, Troy Daniels or Gerald Green, sources say
The Nuggets have interest in adding free agent guard Austin Rivers as they look to bolster their roster ahead of the postseason, league sources told The Denver Post. Rivers, who played 21 games with the Knicks this season, was traded to Oklahoma City at the trade deadline and then waived. In addition to Rivers, the Nuggets also have free agents Troy Daniels and Gerald Green on their radar, league sources said. The Nuggets intend to add another player, potentially on a 10-day contract, a source said. The Nuggets have lacked backcourt depth after sending guards Gary Harris and R.J. Hampton to Orlando in the Aaron Gordon trade. One issue for the Nuggets is how to comply with the NBA’s COVID protocols while bringing in players for workouts. It’s not as seamless as in most years, since potential additions need to clear a certain number of tests before coming to the facility. Another, perhaps more significant, issue for the Nuggets is whether someone like Rivers would be … [Read more...] about Nuggets considering free agents Austin Rivers, Troy Daniels or Gerald Green, sources say
Nuggets guard Jamal Murray suffers torn left ACL, team announces
When Jamal Murray crashed to the floor with less than a minute remaining in Monday’s loss to Golden State, his reaction suggested he knew something devastating had just happened. Murray suffered a torn left ACL, The Denver Post first reported and was later announced by the team early Tuesday morning, ending his season and compromising the Nuggets’ title hopes barely a month out from the postseason. His recovery, according to a league source, is expected to be anywhere from 9 to 12 months. Not only is Murray’s injury devastating to the Nuggets this season, but his recovery is expected to come near the end of next year’s regular season, when the NBA is back on its normal schedule. Murray’s surgery isn’t scheduled yet, and he was expected to fly back to Denver with his teammates Tuesday morning. Murray, who was in the midst of a career year, writhed on the floor in agony as his teammates, and coach Michael Malone, huddled around the grimacing star. “He just came back,” a … [Read more...] about Nuggets guard Jamal Murray suffers torn left ACL, team announces
Stephen Curry shooting his way into history
Never. That’s the last time the NBA saw a shooting stretch like the one Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors has assembled over the past few weeks. It’s been 45 years since the last instance of an NBA MVP being selected from a team that wasn’t at least 10 games over the .500 mark, but Curry has shot his way into serious consideration. He’s averaging 31.4 points on 49% shooting this season; the only other season in which he averaged more than 30 points was 2015-16, when he averaged 30.1 on 50% shooting — and was the unanimous MVP. Those Warriors were 73-9. These Warriors are 29-29. That’s the big difference, the biggest reason why Curry isn’t even more prevalent in the MVP talks. “He’s never played any better, that’s for sure,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said. “It’s been incredible to watch.” Bob Pettit and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar are the only players to win MVP awards on teams that had winning percentages below .560. The award typically goes to the best player on a … [Read more...] about Stephen Curry shooting his way into history
