(CNN) It's common for the winners of the Cecil B. DeMille Award to walk down memory lane discussing their numerous career highlights. But actress Jane Fonda took a different tack when she accepted the prestigious lifetime achievement award at the Golden Globes Sunday night. Fonda began by exalting storytelling as an art form and praising the work of the actors and directors behind many nominated works this year. She ended by calling for better leadership in Hollywood to make sure everyone's stories are told. "Stories — they really can change people. But there's a story we've been afraid to see and hear about ourselves in this industry -- a story about which voices we respect and elevate, and which we tune out," Fonda said. WATCH: Rush Limbaugh Honors Andrew Breitbart — March 1, 2012
The late Rush Limbaugh, who passed away last month, famously honored Andrew Breitbart on the day of his passing, March 1, 2012. Professor William Jacobson of the Legal Insurrection blog noted Rush’s tribute Monday, on the ninth anniversary of Breitbart’s death. Video and transcript, via American Rhetoric , follow: A few words about Andrew Breitbart. I’ve known Andrew Breitbart since the 1990s when he was working with Matt Drudge to help produce that page, the Drudge Report, each and every day. He grew up in West Los Angeles, surrounded by liberals, father-in-law Orson Bean, the comedian. Sometime during the 1990s, the early 90s, Breitbart had an awakening. He was constantly questioning what was all around him, which was really extreme liberalism, and he became, as many of you in the audience know, a bulldog. He literally was an indefatigable bulldog for the conservative cause. He did things that nobody else has done on the Internet where there are a lot of players. He … [Read more...] about WATCH: Rush Limbaugh Honors Andrew Breitbart — March 1, 2012
Can anyone keep hackers out? Nope, and that’s not a problem
As cyber investigators continue to examine the SolarWinds attack, a more complicated picture of what actually happened has begun to emerge. The Acting Director of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, Brandon Wales, said that federal investigators had found Russian intelligence agents alleged to have been behind the SolarWinds hack actually used a variety of techniques well beyond the eponymous compromised software. Wales added that Russian agents creatively used multiple hacking methods, so many in fact that the incidents “ should not be thought of as the SolarWinds campaign .” The myriad ways Russian hackers pursued their victims also reveals a larger truth about cybersecurity in the 21 st century, namely this: While thoughtful cyber defenses remain a necessity, no system is impenetrable. If the U.S. government, which dedicates more time, energy, and funds to cyber defenses than any other regime on the planet, can be so thoroughly penetrated by … [Read more...] about Can anyone keep hackers out? Scarborough: GOP Has Turned Into the Party of ‘Empty Gestures and Grievance’
Tuesday, MSNBC “Morning Joe” host Joe Scarborough contrasted the Democratic Party and the GOP following four years of Donald Trump in the White House. Scarborough agreed with a Wall Street Journal editorial that highlighted there is division in the GOP led by Trump’s grievance after the impeachment trial. He argued the Republican Party has turned into a party of “empty gestures and grievance.” “They are the party of grievance, and as the Wall Street Journal said, the party of grievances past,” Scarborough said. “I want you to compare the Democratic Party right now with the Republican Party right now. You have the Democratic Party that lined up behind a candidate — let’s talk about Bernie Sanders and AOC. They lined up behind a candidate, Joe Biden, who, as AOC said, in any other country would be in another party from her. Very little in common. They consider Joe Biden to be a relic from a different age ideologically — Democratic Party past. And yet, what did they do? They worked … [Read more...] about Scarborough: GOP Has Turned Into the Party of ‘Empty Gestures and Grievance’
