EAST RUTHERFORD -- John Mara won't be following Jerry Jones' lead. Jones already decided not to follow Mara's. While the Cowboys owner said he will require his team's players to stand and not stay in the locker room for the national anthem, the Giants co-owner is holding off on installing a team policy until after the NFL and the NFL Players Association finish revisiting the controversial new policy. "There will be meetings fairly soon where we have discussions about the anthem policy," Mara said. "Hopefully we will be able to come to some sort of resolution that everybody will be open to." So far, that seems like a far-fetched hope given how far apart the two sides appear to be on the topic that has polarized the league, its fans and President Trump. Will John Mara break the bank for Odell Beckham's contract? "My intention all along has to been to sit with our veteran players when they came back to training camp and discuss the issue," Mara said. "Now that the policy has … [Read more...] about Giants’ national anthem policy: What will it be? John Mara not going Jerry Jones route

Ugly Giants-Nationals beanball brawl looks even worse one year later
By Gary Peterson | [email protected] | Bay Area News Group PUBLISHED: May 29, 2018 at 8:27 am | UPDATED: May 29, 2018 at 8:37 am Anatomy of a baseball brawl: Even before Bryce Harper stepped into the batters box at AT&T Park a year ago Memorial Day, Giants reliever Hunter Strickland knew he was going to direct his best fastball at the Washington Nationals slugger’s … hip, side, back, whatever. Reason being? Two and a half years prior, during the 2014 postseason run that culminated in the Giants’ third World Series championship in five years, Harper had homered twice off Strickland. Then again, who didn’t that autumn? Harper paused to admire one of the blasts — too long according to Strickland’s inner stopwatch. Years later, Strickland wound up and unleashed a 98-mph heater into Harper’s right hip. Harper set sail for the pitching mound. Going out on a limb here — we’ve all been guilty of thrilling to a jolly good … [Read more...] about Ugly Giants-Nationals beanball brawl looks even worse one year later

Giants’ Brandon Belt didn’t watch 21-pitch replay: ‘I’ve got too much stuff to do’
By John Shea Published 7:52 pm, Monday, April 23, 2018 Giants first baseman Brandon Belt didn’t bother watching the replay of Sunday’s epic 21-pitch at-bat. It lasted 12 minutes and 45 seconds, after all. “No, I’m not going to watch a 12-minute at-bat,” Belt said Monday before the Giants-Nationals opener at AT&T Park. “I’ve got too much stuff to do.” Belt said he saw a “quickened version” of the at-bat, the longest since at least 1988 when official pitch counts were recorded. “It was kind of cool,” he said. “It still doesn’t make much sense how you see 21 pitches in an at-bat.” Belt fouled off 16 pitches, 15 with two strikes including 11 in a row before lining to right. Explaining the smile he flashed in the final moments of the at-bat, Belt revealed an exchange with Angels catcher Martin Maldonado. “I think I just told him I was going to bunt,” Belt said. “I’m … [Read more...] about Giants’ Brandon Belt didn’t watch 21-pitch replay: ‘I’ve got too much stuff to do’
