A new study finds the new Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine is as effective in real-world use as it was during its late-stage clinical trials. In a large-scale study of 1.2 million people, researchers at Israel’s Clalit Research Institute found the two-dose vaccine reduced symptomatic cases of COVID-19 by 94% across all age groups, and reduced severe illnesses by 92%. Researchers also found that a single shot of the vaccine was 57% effective after just two weeks. The peer-reviewed study, published Wednesday in The New England Journal of Medicine , is the first analysis of a national COVID-19 vaccination strategy. Late-stage clinical trials of the Pfizer-BioNTech showed the vaccine was 95% effective in combating the novel coronavirus. Aurora pays $80,000 settlement after police ordered dog to bite woman being restrained by officers
Aurora paid $80,000 to settle a federal civil rights lawsuit last week after one of the city’s K-9 officers ordered a police dog to bite a woman who was lying on the ground while being restrained by multiple police officers. Caylaanne Connor, then 22, put her hands up when officers surrounded her and then threw her to the ground in March 2019, according to body camera footage of the incident. With two officers on top of her, she was talking to police when Officer Robert Wong ordered his dog to bite her in the leg, according to the footage. In a police report, Officer Nicholas Langdon wrote that Connor was “feigning compliance” and that her right hand “went directly to her waistband.” Wong ordered the dog to bite because Connor could have been reaching for a weapon, the report said. She was unarmed and was not reaching for a weapon, but rather for methamphetamine kept in a sunglasses case, police reported. In her lawsuit, Connor said her hand was pinned under her body and she … [Read more...] about Aurora pays $80,000 settlement after police ordered dog to bite woman being restrained by officers
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton: We Think Our Antitrust Lawsuit Against Google Will Succeed
“We think we’ve absolutely got a case that will win,” Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said Wednesday, referring to the Lone Star state’s antitrust lawsuit against Google alleging abusive monopolistic practices in the digital advertising business. Paxton spoke with Breitbart News Editor-in-Chief Alex Marlow on SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Daily about Texas’s litigation against Google. Marlow invited Paxton’s comments on Gov. Ron DeSantis’s (R-FL) proposed regulatory response to political censorship and manipulation of access to information the world’s largest technology companies have deployed. Paxton replied, “We definitely are looking at [DeSantis’s proposal]. We’re trying to encourage our legislature to do something similar [in Texas], because I feel like [Big Tech] have had exemption from liability that they they shouldn’t have had, especially being in the monopolistic position they are in.” “Our focus is on lawsuits,” Paxton continued. “We’ve sued Google for … [Read more...] about Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton: We Think Our Antitrust Lawsuit Against Google Will Succeed
Why Did Someone Pay $5 Million for a Baseball Card in 2021?
Rob Gough, with the 1952 Mickey Mantle card he paid a record-setting $5.2 million for last month. Photo: Berk Communications This time last year, the only sports cards Rob Gough owned were the ones he’d collected as a kid. Somewhere in his possession are plastic sheets filled with Michael Jordans, Shaquille O’Neals, and assorted members of the 1990s Cincinnati Reds, all mass-produced and worth roughly the cardboard they were printed on. These days, Gough’s collection looks a bit different. The entrepreneur says that by mid-January of this year, he had spent $10 million on various trading cards, a spree that culminated with his biggest purchase yet: $5.2 million for a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle in nearly perfect condition. With that, he shattered the record for the price of a single card. It was a jaw-dropping purchase but hardly an isolated event in a suddenly torrid sports-card market. The previous record for the priciest sale ever had been set just months before, in August … [Read more...] about Why Did Someone Pay $5 Million for a Baseball Card in 2021?
