SU is awaiting its bowl destination and opponent, which should become public later Sunday afternoon. After going 17 years without a national ranking, Syracuse was included in all six Top 25s issued by the CFP ranking committee this year. Dan Wolken USA TODAY Published 9:49 PM EST Dec 1, 2018 ATLANTA — Moments after a second gutting defeat to Alabama in 11 months in Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Georgia coach Kirby Smart offered an impassioned case for his team to make the College Football Playoff. “It boils down to one thing,” Smart said. “Do you want the best four teams or not?” Sorry, Kirby, but prepare to be disappointed when the selection committee reveals the playoff field on Sunday because two-loss Georgia almost certainly won’t be there — and it shouldn’t be. The Bulldogs came up short Saturday, 35-28, in an effort that should be considered highly commendable until their offense got stuck in neutral in the fourth quarter and Smart’s ill-advised fake punt on fourth-and-11 with 3:04 remaining went sideways. But ultimately, that’s the point. For the playoff system to work for the benefit of college football; for it to be viable and … [Read more...] about Georgia does not deserve final College Football Playoff spot
Damn, 13 weeks go by way too fast. It seems like just yesterday, we were getting ready for a slew of opening weekend college football games, and now here we are, preparing for 24 hours of conference title game overload this weekend. Before we get to all of the speculation about the four team College Football Playoff field, here is this weekend's conference title game dance card: 1. Alabama 12-0 So we're basically down to six teams with a reasonable shot at the four playoff spots — Alabama, Clemson, Notre Dame, Georgia, Oklahoma, and Ohio State. Here are my thoughts on where we are and where we could be come Sunday evening, when the playoff matchups are unveiled: 6. PAC-12 is done, again5. McKenzie Milton's injury basically eliminates any UCF Cinderella story.4. Notre Dame is the one school that can sit back and watch.3. Well, maybe Clemson can sit back and relax, too.2. The beauty contest that SHOULD happen — Oklahoma vs Ohio State5. OKLAHOMA (11-1, 8-1)12/1 Big XII Title … [Read more...] about Final College Football Playoff Rankings Before Selection Sunday Released
The weekly College Football Playoff rankings will be released Tuesday night, and it wouldn’t surprise me if the Sooners fall from sixth. I had OU eighth in my rankings last week, and winning Bedlam at home doesn’t pad the old resume’.Plus, there’s the eye factor, which I don’t consider but the committee does, and the eye factor isn’t in the Sooners’ favor, needing a 2-point conversion stop to win 48-47 over Oklahoma State. The rankings could be interesting, though. Just in my rankings, I moved up Clemson from sixth to third this week. Clemson’s win at Boston College was impressive. The differences between Clemson, Georgia and Michigan are not great, and a little variance in the schedule can make a difference. For example, the Wolverines beat Rutgers last week. That drags down Michigan, while Georgia beat Auburn.Remember, I rank teams based on who they played, where they played and how they did. My rankings, much like the … [Read more...] about College football rankings: Alabama, Notre Dame 1-2
