She was referring, of course, to the stunner last week when a painting by the infamously prankish British artist self-destructed right after being sold for $1.4 million. The ICA’s 38th annual Connect & Collect auction has no Banksy on its catalog, alas, but that might be a relief for potential bidders hoping to take their artwork home intact. The San Jose event will present 74 films from 32 African countries and, in a new look at the continent’s diaspora, 14 films from five Caribbean countries. There are also four films made in the United States. After a parade of flags and other red-carpet festivities Oct. 5, the opening night feature film — “Pile ou Face — Head or Tail” from Morocco — will be screened. Other festival selections include works from Eritrea, Nigeria, Cape Verde, Kenya, Lesotho and Haiti, organizers say.
