(CNN)Seven-time Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton will continue to race for Mercedes in the 2021 season after agreeing a new, one-year deal, the team announced on Monday. The deal will see Hamilton partner with Mercedes for a ninth season and puts an end to months of speculation over the Briton's immediate future in the sport. Hamilton has dominated the F1 landscape since joining Mercedes from McLaren in 2013, winning 74 races as well as six drivers' championships. During the 2020 season, the 36-year-old drew level with Michael Schumacher's seven world titles and surpassed the German's all-time wins record of 91 races. Hamilton was also a leading voice supporting the Black Lives Matter movement and called on the F1 paddock to do more to address issues of diversity and inclusion. Lord Sumption Brands Lockdown ‘Thoroughly Inhumane’
Former British Supreme Court Justice Lord Jonathan Sumption has branded lockdowns “thoroughly inhumane”, saying the policy comes at a “cost” of the misery of millions of people. Last week, reports suggested that Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak was concerned that government scientists had been “moving the goalposts” for the criteria for ending lockdown, from hospitalisations, to vaccinations, to case numbers. Former Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt, who now chairs the government’s health committee, wants restrictions to remain in place until cases fall to 1,000 a day. Lake Shore Drive Crash Almost Becomes Hit-And-Run; Police Catch Driver
CHICAGO (CBS) — A crash on Lake Shore Drive closed the south bound lanes early Sunday morning after it almost turned into a hit-and-run. Around 12:45 a.m., a Volvo heading south rear-ended another car on the Oak Street curve, causing both cars to crash into nearby guard rails, according to Chicago police. Charges are now pending. Police say the driver who was hit refused treatment. Fernando Alonso, two-time Formula One champion, injured while cycling in Switzerland
(CNN) Two-time Formula One World Champion Fernando Alonso was hospitalized after a road accident while cycling in Switzerland, according to a tweet from the Alpine F1 Team . "Fernando is conscious and well in himself and is awaiting further medical examinations tomorrow morning," the team's tweet read. The 39-year-old is an avid cyclist who is returning to Formula One racing this year. The Spaniard's return comes less than two years after he announced he was leaving the sport . Former F1 champion Fernando Alonso escapes double roll crash at Dakar Rally Pre-season testing for the upcoming F1 season will be held in Bahrain from March 12-14 before the first race in Bahrain on March 28.
