Lansing — Michigan schools would receive an A-F letter grade “report card” under new legislation supporters say will help parents make informed decisions about where to send their children.The proposal introduced by House Education Committee Chairman Tim Kelly represents the latest move in a long-running debate over school accountability systems that has divided legislators and education officials for years.Under the plan, traditional and charter public schools across the state would receive letter grade measurements for both student proficiency and student growth. Elinor F. Hogan, 92, formerly of Plymouth Meeting, PA passed away on Monday, February 5, 2018 at Arbor View at Willow Valley. She was the wife of the late F. Lee Hogan. Born in Trenton, NJ on June 24, 1925, a daughter of the late Arthur and Carolyn (Wright) Glenn and step-daughter of the late Dorothy Glenn. She is survived by two daughters, Nancy H. wife of Timothy Garrison and Carol A. wife of Charlie Hopkins; and two grandchildren, Carolyn Garrison and Jeffrey Lehman. Born in Ohio, Dick served in WWII before moving to Florida and graduating from the University of Miami. He worked for Wometco Theatres and for the Dade County Medical Society. Two children later, Steve and Sue, the family moved to Buffalo, NY where Dick ran the Erie County Medical Society before retiring in 1990. Returning to Florida, Dick enjoyed golf and the good life with Jane, who predeceased him in 2012. He was deeply involved in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church community in Tampa. BOONE James F. July 25, 1915 February 6, 2018 James F. Boone, 102, of Blacksburg, died Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at his home. He was born in Holland, Va., on July 25, 1915 to the late Howard Sion and Ruby Holland Boone. He was also preceded in death by his wife, the love of his life, Martha Joyner Boone; a daughter, Janice Boone Hart; great-grandson, Caupert Hart Pattishall; son-in-law, Rex Hart; a sister, Elizabeth Knight. Mr. Boone graduated from Virginia Tech in 1937 and retired as Treasurer of Virginia Tech after 30 years. He was longtime member of Blacksburg Baptist Church.
