Sour Patch Kids are Maine’s favorite Halloween candy, followed by Starbursts and M&M’s, according to a recent survey of sales data by CandyStore.com. But little taste buds would disagree. We did our own survey of students at the Amanda C. Rowe Elementary School in Portland, and Sour Patch Kids and Starbursts weren’t mentioned once. But we got an earful about M&M’s and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, and we learned more than we wanted to know about Gummy Boogers.Superheroes come and go, and Halloween costumes go in and out of fashion, but some things about the scariest holiday of the year never change: Kids still like sugar. Updated at 11:30 a.m. ET In an ongoing recall of peanut and almond butter products over possible salmonella contamination, New Mexico-based Sunland Inc. announced Monday it expanded its recall yet again to include cashew butters, tahini and blanched and roasted peanut products sold at many U.S. supermarkets. New products recalled include varieties of cookies sold at Whole Foods that contain peanut butter, peanut butter cracker snacks sold at Stop & Shop supermarkets, and various ice cream and chocolate snack products. Sunland's recall now includes 101 products, and several retailers have issued additional recalls including items made with Sunland ingredients. Sunland Inc. sells its nuts and nut butters to large groceries and other food distributors around the country. Raw and roasted peanuts made by Sunland, Inc. are now being included in an ongoing nationwide recall of peanut and other nut products over potential salmonella contamination that has affected many popular brands. Sunland announced on Friday that both in-shell and shelled raw and roasted peanuts within their current shelf life should not be eaten and the products should be disposed of immediately or returned for a refund. The raw and roasted peanuts available to retail customers were distributed primarily under Sunland's own label and were distributed primarily to produce houses and nationally to numerous large supermarket, grocery and retail chains in addition to online sales, the company said in a Food and Drug Administration press release. As Hurricane Matthew churns toward Florida and the southeastern coast of the U.S., physicians are urging those at risk to be sure their emergency health kits are in order. What they’re recommending families pull together is a far cry from the little plastic first aid box in the bathroom cabinet with Disney princess Band-Aids and an expired tube of antibacterial ointment.
