The signing comes after two days of talks at the ASEAN summit, with the addition of prospective members Burma, Laos and Cambodia. The United States and China however have refused to recognize it. The Treaty on the Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapons Free Zone was signed at the Riverside hotel after almost 12 years of discussions between the nations. The treaty bans the manufacture, acquisition, possession or control over nuclear weapons. The agreement was signed by the leaders of Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, Cambodia and Laos - as well as Malaysia, Brunei, Vietnam, Burma and Thailand.
