SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Amid a statewide talk of extra school funding and a push to re-open schools , some Sacramento-area districts may be battling budget cuts. That includes preparing the pink slips for teachers and school staff, and some say the pandemic is to blame. In Placer County, those slips are already going out to staff. “Am I going to have a job or am I going to be in that limbo for another year?” Travis Mougeotte, president of the Rocklin Teachers Professional Association, asked hypothetically, speaking on behalf of several teachers wondering where they stand. Adopt-A-Teacher: Brookline Parents Help Educators Register For COVID Vaccines
BROOKLINE (CBS) — An initiative in Brookline is helping educators get COVID vaccine appointments. Parents are “adopting” a teacher and registering them for a vaccine appointment so teachers don’t need to spend time searching for an appointment themselves. “It’s very difficult to get these appointments. The lucky people that do come across them, it’s at really inconvenient times. It requires a lot of time and patience, sitting at your computer pressing that refresh button, just hoping, wishing that these appointments become available and teachers, nationwide just don’t have the luxury or the time,” said Lawrence School PTO President Christina Grady. DUARTE (CBSLA) — More than 700 educators lined up outside the Duarte Performing Arts Center on Saturday morning to receive their COVID-19 vaccines. City of Hope National Medical Center helped administer doses and the invite-only clinic, which targeted eight neighboring school districts that are trying to get their teachers fully vaccinated. Arizona’s Education Department Launches Internal Review After Report Reveals Its ‘Equity Toolkit’ Traces Racism To Babies
Arizona’s state education department is conducting an internal review after it was revealed the department’s “equity toolkit” suggests racism develops in children as young as 3 months old, the Discovery Institute’s Christopher Rufo reported Friday. Although the department “recognizes the need for resources that explore equity and inclusion issues,” it would probe the “recently publicized resources around equity” that it says were intended for school leaders, Arizona’s Department of Education said in a statement , according to Rufo. The materials were not “shared widely with Arizona schools and do not constitute curriculum for students,” which is determined at the local level.
