The FBI raid on former President Donald Trump took place just days after historians met with President Joe Biden last week, reportedly warning him of a looming civil war. On August 4, several historians met with Biden at the White House warning him that America was facing divisions similar to that of the years before the Civil War before the 1860 election, according to The Washington Post. The group of historians included historian Jon Meacham, journalist Anne Applebaum, Princeton professor Sean Wilentz, University of Virginia historian Allida Black and presidential historian Michael Beschloss, according to the reports. The New ‘A League of Their Own’ Is the Rare Home-Run Reboot
It’s time to admit it: Prestige television is largely mediocre . It seems good while you’re watching it, but it’s smoke and mirrors—big-name streamers pour millions into new shows, causing style to be mistaken for substance. When you look back months later at a show you thought you enjoyed, can you still name more than three things you loved? Can you ascertain one reason you kept watching, other than, “Eh, I guess since I started it I should see what happens”? A League of Their Own is, remarkably, the antithesis of this “golden age” of televised deception. Remakes aren’t supposed to be good anymore. Ask the 47,000 think pieces about it that have been written in the last 10 years. Admittedly, Hollywood is devoid of new ideas, and would rather guarantee a return on their investments by frankensteining an old project with nothing new to say. But this new series is so surprisingly, refreshingly good. Amazon Prime’s serialized reboot of the beloved 1992 film about the … [Read more...] about The New ‘A League of Their Own’ Is the Rare Home-Run Reboot

Some of the most Instagram-friendly sandwiches on the planet are back in Denver for a three-week pop-up
Some things look too good to eat, which is both a blessing and a curse for Sandoitchi, the Japanese-style sandwich-maker that is hosting a pop-up in Denver this month. It’s a blessing because Instagram posts about the photogenic sandos have been one of the primary drivers behind Texas-based Sandoitchi’s buzz-worthy marketing over the past two years. It’s a curse because, well, the brand’s founders want the food to stand on its own. “We were born on social media. Instagram is our biggest media and social media tool,” said Sandoitchi operations manager Keith Tran. “But we don’t want to get lumped in with other ‘Instagram foods.’ It helps that the sandwich is very pretty. But we are a chef-driven brand. “Our food tastes as good as it looks. Maybe better. We want to draw the line there,” he added. Created in Dallas in 2020 by chef Stevie Nguyen — who had previously worked at Momofuku Ko, Morimoto and Uchi — the company’s goal is to bring a version of the pre-packaged sandwiches … [Read more...] about Some of the most Instagram-friendly sandwiches on the planet are back in Denver for a three-week pop-up
For these roommates, juggling in Denver’s streets is a way of life and a way to make a living
For roommates Andrew, Cam and David, life’s a circus. Really, though. Each makes a living juggling in the streets of Denver. You may have seen one of them on your daily work commute, stepping out onto the crosswalk at red lights to entertain motorists and passersby. Andrew Young and Cam Resch perform a few times a week at the Quebec Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard intersection, while David Forrey keeps things in the air at 1st Avenue and University Boulevard in Cherry Creek. They’ve got it down to a science: Dash out, perform a quick show, and then zip between cars to collect what tips they can before returning to the safety of the sidewalk once the light turns green. It’s a tricky game. If they’re out in traffic once the light has turned green, they could be fined for soliciting contributions from traveling vehicles. They also have to be careful not to obstruct pedestrian rights-of-way on the crosswalks — and look out for their own safety as well. None of them … [Read more...] about For these roommates, juggling in Denver’s streets is a way of life and a way to make a living
Thornton celebrates forthcoming Denver Premium Outlets at I-25 and 136th Avenue
By holiday shopping season next year, Thornton will be home to 80 new outlet stores offering discount, name-brand merchandise. That’s the timeline for Denver Premium Outlets , a 330,000-square-foot retail center that celebrated its groundbreaking at the northeast corner of East 136th Avenue and Interstate 25 on Thursday. Simon Premium Outlets, a division of Simon Property Group , is the owner/developer behind the project that local officials expect to draw shoppers from across the north metro area when shops open next fall. “This is going to give us a whole new option, not only for our city but all the cities around here,” Thornton Mayor Heidi Williams said. “It’s really going to be a regional project. It’s super exciting.” Simon executives said the property attracted the company — also owner of the Colorado Mills and Denver West Village mall in Lakewood — because it has access and visibility from I-25 and scenic views to the west. John Villapiano, senior director of … [Read more...] about Thornton celebrates forthcoming Denver Premium Outlets at I-25 and 136th Avenue
Gaylord Rockies’ new manager must find everything from bellhops to chefs as hiring of 1,500 begins
Rick Medwedeff, the first general manager of the Gaylord Rockies hotel, is tasked with leading one of the biggest hiring sprees in state history. Medwedeff, who relocated to Colorado in January, needs to find 1,500 employees to staff what will be the state’s largest conference hotel — 1,501 rooms and 485,000 square feet of meeting space — when it opens in mid-December. Most of those hires will occur in a short window in October and November, and they will have to take place in one of the tightest labor markets the state has ever seen. “Build it, and they will come,” Medwedeff said of his hope that the huge structure in Aurora just south of Denver International Airport will draw interest. Private contractors, such as transport providers and laundry services, will make some of the hires. And among Medwedeff’s first hires will be a team of managers that will help him with the process of hiring employees, who are called “stars” in the Gaylord culture. Medwedeff said Gaylord … [Read more...] about Gaylord Rockies’ new manager must find everything from bellhops to chefs as hiring of 1,500 begins
Cabela’s in Thornton brings promised development, sales taxes
THORNTON —Development around Cabela’s at the Grove in north Thornton is performing like a dream, according to satisfied city officials and project developers. A year after the 90,000-square-foot outdoor gear and hunting retailer opened in August 2013 , at 14050 Lincoln St., new stores and housing prospects are popping up around it. “The Grove is doing exceedingly well,” said Julie Jacoby, retail and local business administrator in Thornton. “We have quite a few projects that are in the works right now.” Officials in the city’s economic development department recently announced that a Candlewood Suites and Hilton Garden Inn have filed plans with the city to build at the Grove, which spans 65 acres along the east side of Interstate 25 and 144th Avenue. A 16,000-square-foot La-Z-Boy furniture store and a 55,000-square-foot Hobby Lobby are both slated to open by the end of this year . A nearly leased out, 28,000-square-foot building on 144th Avenue and Grant Street houses … [Read more...] about Cabela’s in Thornton brings promised development, sales taxes
