If an explanation for suspicious campaign contacts with Russia falls out of a mouth in private, did it really make a sound? President Trump’s son-in-law and all-purpose Mr. Fix-It, Jared Kushner, testified Monday to congressional investigators about his campaign and transition contacts with Kremlin officials. Behind closed doors. Not under oath. The same ground rules will apply some future day to one-time Trump campaign chair Paul Manafort and Don Trump Jr., who enthusiastically agreed to receive dirt on Hillary Clinton from a woman he thought was a representative of the Russian government offering her assistance as part of an ongoing pro-Trump Kremlin campaign. This despite Trump Jr. having told Sean Hannity that he would gladly testify under oath and would fully cooperate with any investigation. But the depressing concessions by Republican members of Congress need not shroud the crucially important interviews behind a permanent curtain. … [Read more...] about Release the Kushner, Trump Jr. and Manafort interview transcripts: The public has a right to know how they explain themselves
Well, well, well: An email chain not only confirms that Don Trump Jr., presidential son-in-law Jared Kushner and campaign chair Paul Manafort knew full well they’d be getting audience with a lawyer promising compromising details on Hillary Clinton courtesy of the Russian government, contrary to earlier denials, but that Jr. responded with passion: “I love it.” Cornered by the press, Jr. released his emails, earning praise from dad: “My son is a high quality person and I applaud his transparency.” This from the man who promised, in his Republican nomination-clinching victory speech in the days between the initial email and the meeting, “very informative and very, very interesting” news about Clinton. Who less than a month ago insisted his adversaries “made up the phony collusion with the Russians story.” Guys, let us know when you get your stories straight. Better yet, call your lawyers. … [Read more...] about So, it was about emails: Donald Trump Jr. ‘loves’ his Russia link
Ryan: 'At the Next SOTU, You'll Find Me With VP Pence & Pres Trump' Watch Chris Christie Literally Make the Point-by-Point Case Against Hillary Donald Trump Jr. addressed the Republican National Convention, telling the audience that for his generation, "this is most important election of our lifetime.""We have actually started to believe that solving our great problems is an impossible task," he said. "That is why we need to elect a man who has a track record of accomplishing the impossible.""Impossible is just the starting point," he added.Trump Jr. said his father would be "a president who doesn’t have to run a focus group or use data analytics to be able to form an opinion… who says what needs to be said, and not just what you want to hear."He said that when his father is elected, "we'll have made America great again - greater than ever before."Watch the speech above. The saying in the Watergate days was that “it’s not the crime but the cover-up.” These days, you don’t need a crime or a cover-up to trigger outsized political outrage, just a heavy dose of bad optics. The latest hyperventilating from the anti-Trump crowd is over a chain of emails from June 3-8, 2016 between Donald Trump Jr. and music producer Rob Goldstone. Goldstone was acting as an intermediary to set up a meeting between Trump and Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya. According to Goldstone, the purpose of the meeting would be to pass along “very high level and sensitive information” that “would incriminate Hillary and her dealings with Russia.” Goldstone opined that this was “part of Russia and its government's support for Mr. Trump.”Goldstone said he was told “she has information about illegal campaign contributions to the D.N.C.” It would also have been reasonable to have assumed that the promised information … [Read more...] about Donald Trump Jr. was within his rights to meet with Russian lawyer
WASHINGTON – Emails released by Donald Trump Jr. Tuesday show he was excited about the possibility of the Russian government providing him with damaging information about Hillary Clinton during last year's presidential campaign."If it's what you say I love it,” the president’s eldest son wrote to an intermediary eager to set up a meeting where Trump Jr. was promised information that would "incriminate" Clinton. Related: But is that evidence of any crime? Here’s a look at some of the legal issues that could be in play, based on what we know now. Maybe. There’s a lot more to learn from the ongoing investigations by a special counsel and congressional committees, which are whether Trump associates colluded with Russia. The U.S. intelligence community has concluded that Russian President Vladimir Putin directed a campaign of cyberattacks and fake news to influence the 2016 presidential election in favor of Trump.“I … [Read more...] about Did Donald Trump Jr. break any laws by seeking damaging information from Russia on Hillary Clinton?
Heretofore, I’ve generally agreed with President Donald Trump’s description of the various investigations of Russian ties with his campaign as a witch hunt. The notion that the Trump campaign colluded with the Russian government to hack and disseminate emails from Democratic operatives seems far-fetched. And so far, there’s no evidence of it.Interactions and doing business with foreign entities isn’t illegal, although there can be disclosure requirements. Disclosure violations hardly warrant the investigative apparatus and hullabaloo that has resulted. All that remains true. But the meeting Donald Trump, Jr. set up with a Russian lawyer isn’t nothing. The meeting included Trump Jr., son-in-law Jared Kushner, and then campaign chief Paul Manafort. The Trump campaign was a family affair. So, this was a meeting with the most senior officials in the Trump campaign. They were told that the meeting was with a prosecutor with the Russian government who wanted to … [Read more...] about Robb: Donald Trump Jr.’s Russian meeting isn’t nothing
AKRON, Ia. — Game birds were flushed, shotguns were fired and frisky dogs were busy retrieving their prey Saturday as Donald Trump Jr. joined a group of outdoorsmen for the opening day of Iowa's pheasant hunting season.Amid crisp October temperatures that dipped below freezing Saturday morning along the Iowa-South Dakota border, the president's son hunted with U.S. Rep. Steve King, R-Kiron, and about 30 others clad in blaze orange at the Hole N' the Wall Lodge near Akron in northwest Iowa's Plymouth County. Reporters who observed Trump Jr. from a short distance saw a pheasant emerge in flight near him in a field of tall grass. He pivoted toward the bird, fired his single-barrel shotgun, and feathers flew as the bird dropped to the ground. Trump Jr. wasn't available to talk with the media afterward, but he reportedly shot at least three or four other pheasants earlier in the morning."He is a … [Read more...] about Donald Trump Jr. bags pheasants with Rep. Donald Trump Jr. said he was somewhat taken aback by the crowd at the Neshoba County Fair on Tuesday. It was, as his father the presidential candidate would say, “yuuge,” and boisterous and welcoming and waving Trump signs and clad largely in Trumpware.“This is not a campaign any more,” Trump said to a crowd of more than 2,000 at the fair’s racetrack. “It’s a movement. I see more Trump shirts and signs out here. I don’t see anything from the other side.”“It’s awesome to have this kind of welcome,” Trump Jr. said. “I don’t even have to tell you what to do in November. You’re already there.”The crowd chanted “Trump, Trump, Trump” and “USA,” and even at one point, “build that wall” as Trump Jr. spoke briefly with media, met with members of the legendary Manning football family and toured the fairgrounds with Gov. Phil Bryant, Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves and U.S. … [Read more...] about Donald Trump Jr. speaks at Neshoba Fair
