French police have arrested five people aged 18 to 29 regarding death threats sent to a French teen who criticised Islam on social media last November. The five individuals were taken into custody on Tuesday in relation to an investigation into the very large number of death threats received by teenager ‘Mila’ after criticising Islam in a video on TikTok. According to a report from broadcaster France Bleu, the arrests took place in several areas of France including Loire-Atlantique, Moselle, Calvados, Marne, and Hauts-de-Seine. Those arrested will likely face charges of death threats and cyber-harassment. The November video was the latest released by the French teen since her video in January of 2020 led to a torrent of abuse and threats online. Model Rebecca Landrith was found dead on the side of a Pennsylvania highway on Sunday with multiple gun shot wounds to her body, according to reports. Landrith, a Virginia native who worked as a model in New York City, was found early Sunday morning on an exit ramp along Interstate 80 in Union County, Pennsylvania, PennLive.com reports. The 47-year-old woman's body was discovered by a Pennsylvania Department of Transportation employee. According to the report, a coroner found Landrith sustained multiple gunshot wounds to her head, neck and throat. 18 bullets were removed from her body. More than 80 civil rights and advocacy groups wrote a letter to President Joe Biden urging him to commute the sentences of death row inmates and to halt the use of the death penalty following more than a dozen federal executions authorized under the Trump administration. “If we are to truly forge a nation as good as its ideals, the federal government must take swift action to commute the sentences of those currently under federal sentence of death and end the government’s cruel ineffective, and irreversible use of the death penalty,” the letter says, signed by groups including the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), Amnesty International and 80 other anti-death penalty groups. A federal judge ordered a stay of execution Tuesday for two men on death row due to their recent COVID-19 infections, numerous sources reported. Justin Higgs and Corey Johnson tested positive for COVID-19 in mid-December, roughly a month prior to their scheduled execution dates.
