As far as Hillary Clinton is concerned, what Donald Trump said last Thursday was offensive, but maybe no more so than any of the men on the debate stage - especially Marco Rubio. On Monday, Clinton berated Republicans for their views on abortion access, specifically targeting Florida Sen. Marco Rubio for what he said at Thursday night's GOP debate. Asked during the debate about his support for exemptions to abortion bans for rape and incest, Rubio said then, "I have never said that, and I have never advocated that." Clinton told reporters,"When one of their [the GOP's] major candidates, a much younger man, the senator from Florida, says there should be no exceptions for rape and incest, that is as offensive and troubling a comment as you can hear from a major candidate running for the presidency." Rubio is one of the Republicans who could pose a big threat to Clinton. A Quinnipiac poll in late June found that she would beat Rubio by just three points in hypothetical matchups in Florida … [Read more...] about CBS News Logo Hillary Clinton weighs in on Donald Trump, rolls out college affordability program
On the Republican debate stage Thursday night, Republican front-runner Donald Trump declared he was "changing" his stance on immigration, and on a separate question, he admitted he talked about immigration during an off-the-record portion of an editorial board discussion with the New York Times in January. "I am changing it and softening the position" on visas for skilled immigrant workers, Trump said in Detroit. He added that it was because "we need talented people in this country." Previously, as Fox News host Megyn Kelly pointed out, Trump did not support increasing skilled worker visas, saying they "decimate American workers." But on Thursday, Trump said "one of the biggest problems we have is people go to the best colleges they go to Harvard, they go to Stanford, they go to Wharton. As soon as they're finished they get shoved out. They want to stay in this country. They want to stay here desperately. They're not able to stay here. For that purposes we absolutely have to be able … [Read more...] about CBS News Logo Donald Trump refuses to release NY Times transcript, softens on immigration
“I have huge respect for the Trump family,” said Jaclyn Groenen, a mom who used to work for Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and lives in the Philadelphia suburbs, “but I hate to tell you that because I don’t think he should be president,” she said. From 2006 to 2008, Groenen ran a merchandise store in Trump Tower. She said she dealt with Trump and his children, and she found them to be both respectful and hard workers, regularly starting their day with 7:30 a.m. meetings. Although she said she’s going to support Hillary Clinton for the presidency, she says working for Trump, in part, got her to her most recent job as a buyer for a major department store. Groenen is one of 84 women CBS News tracked down around the country who worked for the Trump Organization at some point in the last 35 years, ranging from interns to executives. Most women we reached out to didn’t want to talk. Forty-three did not respond, and another … [Read more...] about CBS News Logo What women who worked for Donald Trump have to say about him
Ivanka Trump is arguably the most well-known of Donald Trump's children. She's a former model. She's got her own line of clothing, handbags and footwear. She serves as Executive Vice President of Development and Acquisitions at The Trump Organization. And she's appeared on her father's hit show "The Apprentice" for years, as an adviser and boardroom judge. Born in 1981, Ivanka is the second-oldest child of Donald Trump and his first wife, Ivana. And tonight, she'll be taking the podium to introduce her father as he formally accepts the Republican nomination. That's a pretty prime spot. And she's received it because she comes across as both eloquent and well educated... a point which begs the question, where exactly did she receive her education? Ivanka spent her first two college years at Georgetown University (her brother Eric's alma mater). In her junior year, however, she transferred to the Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania. She graduated from Wharton in … [Read more...] about CBS News Logo Where did Ivanka Trump go to college?
