Television Academy to Hold an Industry-Wide Summit on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion This December

The Television Academy will launch its first-ever industry-wide DEI summit later this year, which comes as the org also releases its latest report on diversity, equity and inclusion practices throughout the industry. The summit, which will take place Dec. 1, will target DEI professionals in the industry – “to meet, network, share ideas and collaborate to work towards a more inclusive and equitable industry, increasing the visibility, equity and power for those marginalized and underrepresented,” according to the Academy. This grant cycle focused on summer programs for children up to age thirteen that address learning loss through academics or enrichment programming and include activities or services that address children’s social-emotional needs due to the impact of the pandemic. School District Is Requiring Its Employees To Call Students By Preferred Pronouns, Names
A Connecticut school district policy went into effect Tuesday which requires educators to call students by their preferred pronouns and names. Hartford Public School District in Hartford, Connecticut, implemented a new policy for teachers on Tuesday regarding the treatment of transgender and non-binary students. Educators must address a student by their preferred pronouns and name and failure to do so is a violation of the school policy. (RELATED: California School District Pressures Teachers To Aid In Students’ Gender Transitions) The school states in the policy that they will not reveal a student’s transgender status to parents unless told by the student to do so. Educators also must attend a “transgender sensitivity” training which will focus on “what it means to treat all people respectfully and equally.” Educators are also advised to “eliminate the practice of segregating students by gender,” according to the policy. Federal Court Nixes Vaccine Mandate, Citing Religious Liberty
A federal court denied a petition for rehearing in a case surrounding United Airlines’ vaccine mandate — one judge accusing the company of “ coerc[ing] its employees into violating their religious beliefs.” Judges for the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, widely considered the most conservative federal court, voted 13-4 on Thursday to deny a rehearing. The court also denied United Airlines’ request to vacate a panel opinion from February , which held that the mandate inflicted irreparable harm and remanded the case to district court. Trump-appointed Judge James Ho penned a concurring opinion , admonishing the airline for creating a “crisis of conscience” for its employees, and warned of new wave of corporatism in the Unites States that seeks to inflict its cultural values on Americans.
