We got a peek into the future of woke diversity on March 23, when Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) announced that she was so mad at the Biden administration for supposedly neglecting Asian-American and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) that she wouldn’t vote to confirm any more of Biden’s non-minority appointees. “I will vote for racial minorities and I will vote for LGBTQ, but anybody else I’m not voting for,” she said. “Until then, I am a ‘no’ vote on the floor on all non-diversity nominees.” Explaining her stance, Duckworth recalled that she had been on a conference call with White House staffers and had complained about this alleged lack of diversity. The response that came back was not at all satisfactory to Duckworth: “The first words out of the staff mouth was ‘We’re very proud of Vice President Harris,’ which is incredibly insulting.” One might wonder why it’s insulting to bring up the heritage of Harris, who is a woman and half-Indian and half-Black, and thus plenty … [Read more...] about Virgil: When Wokeness Damages Democrats

People, political parties and incumbents all underestimate Rep. A lexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) at their own peril. As someone who grew up in poverty and worked menial jobs to pay for a college education, I have always been impressed by her working-class background. All the more reason I was shocked and disappointed when some in the GOP, and people like British journalist Piers Morgan, made fun of her for being just a bartender. Morgan’s mocking comment came after Ocasio-Cortez questioned why then- President Trump Donald Trump White House says bills are bipartisan even if GOP doesn't vote for them Gaetz bragged about 'access' to women through Florida tax collector charged in federal case: report Trump calls for boycott of MLB for moving All-Star Game MORE ’s daughter, Ivanka, was seen attending the G-20 summit in Osaka, Japan, in 2019 and conversing with then-British Prime Minister Theresa May Theresa Mary May The Hill's Morning Report - Biden … [Read more...] about Will Ocasio-Cortez challenge Biden or Harris in 2024?
Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) voted in Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga as its new party leader Monday following the resignation of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in late August. Suga won by a wide margin in Monday’s inter-party election , securing roughly 70% of the 534 votes cast by LDP lawmakers and party representatives from across the county, The Japan Times reported . He is expected to become prime minister following a parliamentary vote Wednesday as the LDP holds a majority of seats in Japan’s National Diet. WATCH: The 71-year-old cabinet secretary has been a longtime ally of Abe, who stepped down following health complications. His election indicates that the LDP will pick up where Abe left off in a gesture that largely appeals to the country’s political establishment, according to The New York Times. “We need to inherit and facilitate policies promoted by Prime Minister Abe in order for us to overcome this crisis and for each and … [Read more...] about Japan’s Ruling Party Elects New Leader To Replace Shinzo Abe As Prime Minister
Sen. (CNN) On Friday, President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris traveled to Atlanta to confront the racial hatred that is forcing millions of people of Asian descent to live in daily fear. The trip comes on the heels of Tuesday's carnage -- in which a White man in Atlanta killed eight people, including six Asian women. Though the motive has not yet been established, this shooting spree follows a pattern of increasing violence against Asian Americans, particularly women and elders. Harris herself is of South Asian descent and has long been a champion of racial justice. Meanwhile, Biden has continually reinforced his commitment to racial justice through his speeches, interviews and statements. And earlier this month, both the White House and Department of Justice hosted listening sessions with leaders in the Asian American and … [Read more...] about Black-Asian solidarity has a long and storied history in America
