But nestled in the document was a short bullet point that addresses a long-running concern of U.S. veterans groups: the recovery of the remains of thousands of American soldiers who were killed or captured in North Korea during the Korean War. On Tuesday, the two countries agreed to "commit" to recovering the remains of fallen soldiers, "including the immediate repatriation of those already identified," according to the document. The office's spokesman, Bruce Anderson, said in a one-line statement, "The DoD Office of Inspector General has initiated an investigation into allegations related to Rear Admiral (Lower Half) Ronny L. Jackson."The case had been referred to the office, CBS News' David Martin reports, and now the IG has decided there's enough in the referral to warrant an investigation.Mr. Trump had previously tapped White House doctor Ronny Jackson to run the VA, but unsubstantiated allegations about Jackson's conduct tanked his nomination, and Jackson withdrew. Jackson faced allegations of creating a "hostile work environment." Defense Department declares U.S.-led air strikes ‘successfully hit every target’ in Syria
The U.S.-led air strikes that struck Syrian chemical weapons facilities were deemed a success Saturday by Defense Department officials. Pentagon officials — backing President Trump’s positive assessment of the strikes — broke down the bombardment in a detailed briefing that illustrated the military might used in in response to a suspected poison gas attack. The 4 a.m. assault, which was carried out by a coalition of American, British and French forces, “successfully hit every target,” according to Pentagon spokeswoman Dana White. Warplanes, ships and submarines fired a total of 105 cruise missiles at a trio of targets, including chemical weapons facilities near the capital of Damascus, officials said. The U.S. hit its first target, the Barzah Research and Development Center, with 76 missiles, including 57 Tomahawk land attack cruise missiles.
