In early 2017, shares of Helmerich & Payne (NYSE: HP) were riding high thanks to increased drilling activity across North America. Producers were starting to open their wallets again after two years of budget cuts and scaled-back operations. While Wall Street was excited about the idea of more drilling activity, it seemed less enthusiastic about what that means for Helmerich & Payne's operations. This ultimately led to a 16% decline in the latter's shares last year. Recently, though, the stock is on the upswing as oil prices rise again. So, as an investor, you have to wonder if this is just like last year's red herring, or if this is the buy signal you've been waiting for. Let's take a more in-depth look at why 2017 wasn't as bad as Helmerich & Payne's stock price might suggest and whether investors should consider this drilling rig company in 2018 for their portfolio. Liam Payne has revealed he would be happy to reconcile with former band mate Zayn Malik at the BRIT Awards next month. The 'Pillowtalk' hitmaker fell out with his former One Direction band mates - including Liam, Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles, and Niall Horan - when he decided to leave the band in early 2015, and although they have barely spoken to each other since, 24-year-old Liam has admitted he would be keen to patch up their friendship at the glitzy award ceremony. Can we move on from the Kenny Payne-to-Louisville chatter?I get how we got here: A few of Payne’s well-known friends told a writer they’ve known for a while they’d like to see their old pal get the head-coaching gig at their alma mater. The writer wrote that as any writer would, because it’s newsworthy when big-name alumni speak up about something like this.Twitter freaked out. Message board threads rapidly expanded. Radio shows dedicated hours to it, and other media outlets weighed in, too. Then, as any good journalist would, another reporter asked Payne about the story linking him to Louisville, where he won a national title as a player. Payne’s response was newsworthy, too.But the bottom line is and has been since this all started: Payne is not the right guy for the permanent Louisville men’s basketball coaching job. While no formal search has begun and we are all speculating, and it’s never smart to say never, this particular prospect … [Read more...] about Can we move on from the Louisville basketball and Kenny Payne chatter? | Jeff Greer
LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kentucky assistant Kenny Payne has never been a college basketball head coach and, yeah, certainly his success is due in part to working for Hall of Famer John Calipari at a resource-rich traditional powerhouse. So you're right, outspoken Louisville fans on Twitter: Payne should not be the Cardinals' basketball coach next season or anytime soon. That's because Payne is better than the Louisville program currently is and probably will be for the next half-decade. He's earned the right to choose a job that lines up with his talent, ability and potential. He should go somewhere stable, recruit elite players and continue winning. It's obvious Louisville can't provide the quality opportunity Payne deserves for quite some time."I have love for Louisville," said Payne, the former Cardinals' player and member of the 1986 championship team. His heart might force him to consider returning to lead his alma mater, but his brain … [Read more...] about Louisville basketball fans are right: Kenny Payne should not be U of L’s coach
