DAVIS (CBS13) – UC Davis researchers have discovered that some of the best medicine to get you through a pandemic may not come in the form of a pill at all. Instead, it may come with having a pet. It’s clear little white Maltese-mix, Heidi, stole Homer Hobi’s heart. But there’s more than love between Homer and his pups. There’s an appreciation others may not understand. And while medical breakthroughs kept Homer alive, he believes his dog Allie was the medicine he really needed. “I was going through some really rough times and that dog really helped me get through the roughest part of the AIDS pandemic,” said Hobi. Austria Scraps Coronavirus Vaccine Mandate Law
The Austrian government has scrapped a law that would force residents of the country to be fully vaccinated against the Wuhan coronavirus, with the country’s Health Minister arguing the omicron variant has “changed the rules.” Health Minister of Austria Johannes Rauch of the Green Party and Austrian People’s Party club leader August Wöginger announced that the law would be scrapped as it was not effective in getting more people vaccinated and the omicron variant has led to milder cases of the virus. “Omicron has changed the rules,” Rauch said and added, “the Corona vaccination obligation does not bring anyone to get vaccinated,” and argued that even if people were punished for being unvaccinated it did not have any impact on overall vaccination numbers, which had remained the same, Kronen Zeitung reports . Minister Rauch also stated that the mandatory vaccination law had opened “deep rifts” among the general public and Austrian society. He added that Austria has gone from … [Read more...] about Austria Scraps Coronavirus Vaccine Mandate Law

Dozens of Providers in Red States Move to Prescribe Abortion Pills
In the wake of the Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade , which has triggered abortion bans in more than 13 states, the abortion-rights advocacy group Plan C says it has seen a surge in the number of primary-care providers asking how they can begin offering medication abortion to patients in their respective states. Some may choose to do so over state lines. “There’s been an overwhelming amount of interest,” said Christie Pitney, a certified nurse midwife who coordinates Plan C’s efforts to increase the number of clinicians offering telehealth abortions by guiding them through the various steps required to do so. According to Pitney, who herself began providing telehealth abortions in 2021 through her private practice Forward Midwifery, Plan C has gotten 20 requests for help since May, when a leaked draft of the Supreme Court opinion was published by Politico. Believe It or Not, ‘Westworld’ Season 4 Is Worth Watching Again
Well over a year has passed since the Season 3 finale of Westworld aired, which seemed to be despised by both critics and the show’s fans. Writing and production for Season 4 were held up by the COVID-19 pandemic, and it turns out that a lengthy gap can be a good thing. The polarizing drama about cowboys, robots, and free will is finally good again. Even the handful of flaws in the first four episodes HBO made available to critics, while irritating, don’t distract from that familiar one-two punch of puzzlement and shock. I began watching Westworld during the pandemic. After bingeing the first three seasons in less than a week, I was more invested in the lives of Maeve ( Thandiwe Newton ), Dolores ( Evan Rachel Wood ), and Caleb (Aaron Pau l) than my own. Season 3 ended with Caleb and Maeve erasing Rehoboam, the artificial intelligence system built by the Serac brothers to identify and prevent high-risk individuals from harming humanity. Bernard ( Jeffrey Wright … [Read more...] about Believe It or Not, ‘Westworld’ Season 4 Is Worth Watching Again
