ANAHEIM (CBSLA) – Ahead of its much awaited reopening at the end of April, Disneyland Tuesday announced that tickets will go on sale next week. Visitors wait in line to attend the debut of Disney California Adventure’s “A Touch of Disney” on March 18, 2021, in Anaheim, Calif. (Allen J. Schaben/Los Angeles Times/Getty Images) Disneyland Park and California Adventure Park, which have been shuttered since March 2020 because of the coronavirus pandemic, will reopen on April 30. Visitors with unused tickets will be able to make new reservations beginning on Monday, April 12, at 8 a.m. Three days later, on Thursday, April 15, ticket sales will resume for all guests. Universal Studios Reopens Thursday For First Time
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) – The popular Universal Studios Hollywood theme park is welcoming back visitors for the first time since it shuttered in March of 2020 because of the coronavirus pandemic. On Friday, it will fully reopen to the public. However, tickets were already sold out through Sunday. With Los Angeles County in the orange tier of the state’s reopening blueprint, capacity at the park is limited to 25%. Adam Peaty ahead of schedule for Olympics after another 100m blast
World record holder Adam Peaty declared himself ahead of schedule for the Tokyo Olympics after swimming the fastest 100m breaststroke of the year at the British selection trials in London on Wednesday. The Olympic champion had already made sure of his ticket to Japan but the motivation was clear as he won the final in 57.39 seconds, the fifth fastest of all time, with exactly 100 days to go until the Games start. The Briton, who set a record 56.88 at the 2019 world championships in Gwangju, is the only man to have swum the 100m under 58 seconds and he now has the top 20 fastest times in history. Delta announces $1.2 billion first quarter loss
Delta Air Lines announced losses of $1.2 billion in the first quarter of 2021, but the airline said it could be profitable by the late summer if recent trends continue. Delta is the first U.S. airline to report its first-quarter results, the Associated Press reports , with revenue falling 60 percent compared to last year. The AP notes that this loss in revenue would have been worse without federal aid, the absence of which would have increased the losses to nearly $3 billion. Delta CEO Ed Bastian said on Thursday ticket sales in the past two weeks have been stronger than they have ever been since the pandemic began, the AP reports. Delta reportedly generated $4 million in cash per day during March. CDC Study Finds Airlines Should Leave Middle Seat Empty To Reduce COVID Spread
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) – Commercial airlines which leave their middle seats empty on flights can greatly reduce the transmission of COVID-19, according to a new study published Wednesday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The study, conducted by the CDC and Kansas State University , found that the spread of COVID-19 was reduced by anywhere from 23% to 57% — depending on the modeling and the type of cabin arrangement — when airlines left the middle seat vacant, compared to when they operated at full capacity.
