New Jersey budget problems pension mess Phil Murphy Steve Sweeney state workers taxes. The above is not only a lost lyric to Billy Joel’s “We Didn’t Start the Fire,” but it’s also pretty much all I hear whenever someone starts talking about New Jersey’s financial woes. Just a jumble of nonsense. Annoying, actually. And of course, like so many other people, I just throw my hands in the air and give the old “Whaddya gonna do?” Jersey shrug and then continue to pay out 11 cents for every dime I bring in. Well, what if I told you it doesn’t have to be this way? What if I told you the state’s budget woes could be solved lickety-split? What if I told you the answer might lie somewhere people probably say “lickety-split” without irony? Advertisement Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Hoosier State. Indiana, where state government is half the size of the bloated mess of New Jersey. OK. Sit still for a moment. … [Read more...] about Cornholes and all, Indiana does state budgets better than New Jersey (JEFF EDELSTEIN COLUMN)

CMA Fest 2018: Craig Campbell hosts celebrity cornhole game, releases new music
Cindy Watts USA TODAY NETWORK - Tennessee Published 9:56 p.m. UTC Jun 4, 2018 Just some corn hole and smack talk among friends for a good cause is how Craig Campbell describes his 6th annual Craig Campbell Celebrity Cornhole Challenge. Set for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at City Winery, the event’s participants include Brett Young, Tegan Marie, LOCASH, Walker Hayes, Lindsay Ell, Russell Dickerson and more. Proceeds will support the fight against colorectal cancer. Last year’s event raised close to $200,000, and Campbell hopes to beat the number this year. “Raising money and raising awareness of colorectal cancer and about getting screened early is what this is all about,” said Campbell, whose father died of colon cancer at 36 years old. The “Outskirts of Heaven” singer explained the tournament was packed with his friends and single elimination – win or go home. “The artists tease each other,” Campbell said. “The fans … [Read more...] about CMA Fest 2018: Craig Campbell hosts celebrity cornhole game, releases new music
Zapruder Analysis of a Charity Cornhole Tournament Brawl
As a radio host, I attend my fair share of charity events. Some of them are lavish and amazing, and some of them are a little more pedestrian and slow. That's OK, they're always held on behalf of some great cause (or else I wouldn't be there). One thing I can say with certainty, across the board, though, about ALL of the fundraising events I've attended — none of them have ever ended in a bench-clearing street fight. The same cannot be said for Georgia's Douglas County Chamber of Commerce annual cornhole tournament, which was held last Sunday, May 6, at the Foxhall Resort. With a $500 first price for the winner, the mission of the tournament was (and presumably still is) to raise scholarship money for deserving high school seniors. That all sounds great, however, the one problem is that a few of the attendees were a little more focused on first prize than they were the benevolent spirit of the event. So what happens when there is a scoring dispute between two highly … [Read more...] about Zapruder Analysis of a Charity Cornhole Tournament Brawl
Watch this brawl at a charity cornhole tournament in Georgia
This is the world we live in, apparently: Where a nice little gathering put together by the Douglas County (Ga.) Chamber of Commerce, featuring a cornhole tournament (or “bags,” if you prefer, though I’m not sure which is the worse name for a fun activity) designed to raise money for student scholarships, turned into a screaming, cargo shorts melee. And yes, apparently the fight started because there was a disagreement over the score of one of the games. You can’t make it up. But. BUT. The one redeeming quality is the voice of reason: A woman who isn’t visible on the video but takes control over the public address system and lets these guys have it. “Stop it right now! We will stop this tournament. This is stupid! This is absolutely ridiculous! Git! Get out of here. … We are adults and this is ridiculous!” I can’t stop watching it, so here’s the video, which I started at the 12 second mark because of swearing in the early … [Read more...] about Watch this brawl at a charity cornhole tournament in Georgia
