Inflation is already pushing constructions costs above estimates used for the bond. And citizens have been asking for more features to make the police facility more resident-friendly. The board, the same people who are on Salem's nine-member City Council, will consider the proposal at its July 23 meeting. The police facility won't be done until 2020. But when city officials asked residents to weigh in on designs, the message was clear: Make it a place that doesn't just welcome officers and suspects. The Lake Superior Area REALTORS, Arrowhead Builder Association and Northspan Group will discuss findings of the "Housing for the Next Generation of Duluth's Workforce" study at a Thursday public meeting. It is scheduled from 6-7:30 p.m. at the REALTORS office, 4031 Grand Ave. in Duluth.The city of Duluth has identified a need in excess of 4,000 new housing units over the next few years to meet demand. Sky-high construction costs rose again in 2017
The cost of construction in New York City increased 3.29% between the first quarter of 2017 and this year, according to a report released Monday. The rise will add to the end-cost of apartments and public projects like the Second Avenue subway. The rise here was less dramatic than in the country as a whole, which saw construction costs notch up 4%, according to a report from Rider Levett Bucknall, a Hong Kong–based consulting firm. And any effects from President Donald Trump's steel tariffs, which were anticipated for months before he announced them in March, were noticeably absent.
