“It’s not justice,” said Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) on Tuesday in response to the guilty verdicts rendered against former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin for second- and third-degree murder along with second-degree manslaughter in the death of George Floyd. In an Instagram video, Ocasio-Cortez began her remarks by filming herself remove a mask from her face. She said: It’s not justice. I’ll explain to you why it’s not justice. It’s not justice because justice is George Floyd going home tonight to be with his family. Justice is Adam Toledo g etting tucked in by his mom tonight. Justice is when you’re pulled over, there not being a gun that’s part of that interaction because you have a headlight out. Justice is your school system not having or being part of a school-to-prison pipeline. Justice is a municipality and a government that does not — because it trickles down right? — that does not value military and armaments more than it healthcare, and … [Read more...] about AOC on Chauvin Guilty Verdict: ‘It’s not Justice,’ ‘This Is not Resolution,’ ‘Systemic Institutional Racism’ Continues

The Left Calls Black Conservatives ‘House Negroes’ For Daring to ‘Think Differently’, Says Kemi Badenoch MP
The UK’s Equalities Minister Kemi Badenoch condemned the insults being launched against black conservatives from the left, such as ‘Uncle Toms’ and ‘House Negroes’, following a government report on the state of institutional racism in Britain that has outraged the left. The Conservative MP, who gained international press coverage after she reprimanded schools for pushing Black Lives Matter and Critical Race Theory tenants such as ‘white privilege’, said on Tuesday that ministers have received death threats following the release of the government race report . The report, which was headed up by Dr Tony Sewell, found that Britain is a “beacon to the rest of Europe and the world” on issues of race. Following the report, the British-born Jamaican-heritage educator and CEO was subject to many racial-based ad hominem attacks, including from BLM radical Sasha Johnson who was uncovered by Breitbart London to have posted online that “house negroes” are “ in need of hanging ” … [Read more...] about The Left Calls Black Conservatives ‘House Negroes’ For Daring to ‘Think Differently’, Says Kemi Badenoch MP
GOP House Members Accuse John Kerry of ‘Abuse of Power’ for Pressing Banks to Deny Funding for Fossil Fuel Entities
On the eve of Earth Day, 45 members of the U.S. House of Representatives delivered a letter to Special Presidential Envoy for Climate Change John Kerry accusing him of “abuse of power” for leaning on banks and other financial institutions to deny funding for fossil fuel-related entities in the name of fighting climate change. “We write to you to express concern with your decision, as reported in the press, to pressure U.S. banks to make radical, overly prescriptive commitments related to climate change that may not be in the best interest of their businesses, shareholders, employees or customers.1 Such pressure from a senior Administration official is a blatant abuse of power,” the letter said. “Your actions, and the broader actions of the Biden Administration on financial regulation, threaten to compromise the competitiveness of American financial institutions, ignore market demand in energy consumption, increase prices for consumers and kill American jobs.” The letter says, … [Read more...] about GOP House Members Accuse John Kerry of ‘Abuse of Power’ for Pressing Banks to Deny Funding for Fossil Fuel Entities
Leadership and accountability: A military lesson for police reform
Defense lawyers have a saying: “If the law is against you, pound on the facts; if the facts are against you, pound on the table.” For military defense lawyers, there is a slight modification: “Before you pound on the table, pound on the chain of command.” Why? Because in the military, leaders are accountable for the failures of their subordinates and military juries are the harshest critics of their colleagues whose leadership failures contribute to misconduct. Indeed, the Vanessa Guillen disappearance at Fort Hood, Texas, and its subsequent fallout, is a prime and recent example of how failures at low levels of the military result in accountability at high levels. With all the public attention focused on police reforms, as a former military officer and lawyer I find it perplexing why leadership accountability is not the central focus of this dialogue. How did a former police officer such as Derek Chauvin get to the point where he felt it was appropriate, as the prosecutor in … [Read more...] about Leadership and accountability: A military lesson for police reform

According to new research by city health officials, nearly a quarter of adult New Yorkers were infected during last spring’s catastrophic wave. Researchers at the Department of Health and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health looked at antibody-testing data for more than 45,000 city residents last year. In the new study, published in the Journal of Infectious Diseases , they found the toll of infection was worse among Black and Hispanic residents, who were twice as likely as white New Yorkers to have antibodies for COVID-19. (The presence of antibodies serves as evidence of past infection.) “Given disparities in infection risk, effective interventions for at-risk groups are needed during ongoing transmission,” the study’s authors concluded. … [Read more...] about 1 in 4 New Yorkers Were Infected in First Surge of Virus, Study Finds
