Pro-Transgender Doctors Dismiss Male to Female Athletes as ‘an Imagined Problem’ for Women’s Sports

Minnesota-based doctors working in the lucrative youth transgender medical field are condemning a state bill seeking to ban biological males from competing in women’s sports and using female locker rooms. In an op-ed at the Star Tribune this week, the medical professionals – pediatricians and those treating gender dysphoric youth in “gender clinics” – called the legislation a “hateful distraction, an imagined problem created only to politicize the lives of transgender youths.” The authors defended males in girls’ and women’s sports with a statement denying the existence of evidence that boys and men “have any type of biological advantage over” girls and women. The authors do not cite specific studies to support their claims. In 2019, a study at BMJ Journal of Medical Ethics found male athletes claiming to be female hold an “intolerable” advantage over biological female athletes. Three professors — two in bioethics and one in physiology — noted in the BMJ … [Read more...] about Pro-Transgender Doctors Dismiss Male to Female Athletes as ‘an Imagined Problem’ for Women’s Sports

Class 4A basketball midseason report: Mead boys, Mullen girls sit atop competitive fields

Halfway through the Class 4A basketball season, both No. 1-ranked teams in the classification have extra motivation after having their championship dreams derailed by coronavirus in 2020. The Mullen girls never got to play their title tilt against Holy Family when the tournament was canceled, while the Mead boys were left standing in the Final 4. Here’s a look at Mead and Mullen at midseason, as well as other top teams in the classification to watch over the second half of the season. Mullen’s “unfinished business” At Mullen, coach Frank Cawley sang the praises of a six-player senior class that has never lost a playoff game. And, if the Mustangs have their way, they’ll graduate with that streak intact, too. Mullen has been to consecutive title games and won in 2019. “On every practice plan — and this came from the day that we met on the day they canceled the state championship game — we put ‘unfinished business,’ ” Cawley said. “We have to finish this off this year right, … [Read more...] about Class 4A basketball midseason report: Mead boys, Mullen girls sit atop competitive fields

Nuggets interested in Orlando forward Aaron Gordon ahead of trade deadline, sources say

Is Aaron Gordon the answer to Denver’s defensive gap? Denver has interest in Orlando forward Aaron Gordon ahead of next Thursday’s trade deadline, league sources told The Denver Post, and the Nuggets need to assess on-court fit and whether he’s a player capable of vaulting them past some of the other Western Conference powers. At this point, six days from next Thursday’s trade deadline, a deal is still viewed as unlikely, according to a source. With so few quality players on the market, sellers have requested a premium on their returns. The cost for interested teams in Gordon is believed to be a young player or players, a draft pick, in addition to matching salary, league sources said. The Nuggets are far from the only interested team. Portland, Minnesota, and potentially Golden State and Houston, according to sources, are all potential landing spots for Gordon, who’s played in just one postseason in his seven-year career. Gordon, 25, has spent his entire career in Orlando, … [Read more...] about Nuggets interested in Orlando forward Aaron Gordon ahead of trade deadline, sources say

Biden hampered by lack of confirmations

President Biden Joe Biden Biden hampered by lack of confirmations Louisiana special election to replace Richmond heads to runoff Larry Summers blasts .9 T stimulus as 'least responsible' economic policy in 40 years MORE is facing a convergence of challenges without a full complement of agency leaders who would typically oversee efforts on the ground to address them. Biden’s trip to Georgia on Friday after a gunman killed eight people, most of whom were Asian, came amid the absence of a nominee to lead the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), which typically assists with investigating such incidents.
