Warner Bros. is reportedly prepping another reboot of DC comics’ Superman , this time with slavery reparations advocate, author, and Marvel comic book writer Ta-Nehisi Coates teaming with powerhouse producer J.J. Abrams and his Bad Robot production company for the feature film, Deadline reports . Coates, who has a throng of radical, left-wing articles to his name, has been hired to write the latest entry in the Superman saga, while Abrams will produce. No stars or directors have been announced, nor have any story details emerged, according to Deadline. Henry Cavill, who’s helmed the role and the red cape since 2013’s Man of Steel , has expressed his eagerness to star as Superman in another feature. Marvel Comics Cancels Black Lives Matter-Themed ‘Black Panther’ Due to Poor Sales
Marvel Comics has canceled its Black Lives Matter-inspired comic book Black Panther & The Crew due to poor sales , according to reports. The comic book — written by activist author Ta-Nehisi Coates — was canceled after only two issues but is expected to finish out the remainder of its six-issue run, The Verge reported . The comic features a group of majority-black superheroes including Black Panther, Misty Knight, Luke Cage and Storm — the only white person in the “crew” is Kung Fu hero Iron Fist — and their investigation into the case of a black civil rights activist who died in police custody in New York City’s famed Harlem neighborhood. The story is set in a New York City patrolled by robot police officers instead of human officials, but much of the plot appears to derive thematically from the Black Lives Matter playbook, with cops beating up minorities for little to no reason and groups of local citizens on the verge of riots over it all. Coates assured fans … [Read more...] about Marvel Comics Cancels Black Lives Matter-Themed ‘Black Panther’ Due to Poor Sales
French Fishermen Angered After Destructive ‘Bottom Trawling’ in UK Waters Sabotaged
Activists aboard the Greenpeace ship Esperanza are said to have dropped several large boulders into the English channel in an effort to stop bottom-trawling fishing in a protected area favoured by French boats. The ecological activist group tossed 18 boulders overboard in the channel in order to create a barrier and prevent trawling by fishermen who use a bottom-trawling method to scrape the seabed, which Greenpeace has likened to taking a bulldozer to a national park. According to reports , the area impacted is one used by French ships. The group announced the formation of the “boulder barrier” on Twitter on Friday, and later released a full statement on their website saying, “This barrier will stop destructive fishing in what’s supposed to be a protected part of the ocean. But we’re also here to expose the government’s failure to look after its so-called Marine Protected Areas all around the UK.” “These boulders will deter destructive industrial ‘bottom trawlers’ from … [Read more...] about French Fishermen Angered After Destructive ‘Bottom Trawling’ in UK Waters Sabotaged
Denver makes Amazon’s HQ2 finalist list — along with 19 other cities
As abruptly as Amazon announced in September that it was hunting for a place to build a second full-sized headquarters, the Seattle conglomerate on Thursday announced 20 cities that made it to the next level, including Denver. The city was one of 238 proposals submitted to Amazon, which said it would invest $5 billion to build a second campus in North America. It needed a future site that could house around 50,000 employees in about 8 million square feet — the size of Amazon’s headquarters in Seattle. “We are absolutely excited to have made the shortlist. The work continues,” said Sam Bailey, who oversaw the Metro Denver Economic Development Corp.’s effort. Bailey said that Amazon’s economic development team notified his staff early Thursday morning. “The email was four sentences, thanking us for the submission, discussing the next steps and a focus on learning about the community, the talent and potential real estate,” Bailey said. He expects to begin discussions with … [Read more...] about Denver makes Amazon’s HQ2 finalist list — along with 19 other cities
