If it can happen in San Jose, out of the blue, Steve Addazio figures, why the heck can’t it happen in FoCo? Like right now? “Our goal is to hit this thing running this season and have a remarkable season,” Addazio, the CSU Rams’ second-year football coach, told The Post during a recent telephone interview. “I mean, that’s well within our reach. Will that happen? Well, that remains to be seen. “So I think, (if we) stay healthy, stay together, I think those things are very possible this season. Obviously, San Jose State had just a remarkable (2020).” Remarkable and unexpected. In a pandemic-shortened, choppy season, the plucky Spartans emerged from the autumn chaos as one of college football’s biggest surprises. San Jose State won the Mountain West with a 7-0 conference mark (7-1 overall) after being picked to finish fifth in the West division last July. Over the previous four seasons, the Spartans had posted a combined record of 12-37. During that same stretch, the Rams … [Read more...] about CSU coach Steve Addazio talks Buffs, Karl Dorrell, Rick George, and why Rams can be San Jose State of 2021

Steve Addazio, CSU Rams largely absolved by independent investigation
Football coach Steve Addazio and CSU athletics were largely absolved by an independent investigation of published accusations of wrongdoing, the university announced. An eight-week investigation into the Rams’ athletic department by the legal team of Husch Blackwell determined that alleged COVID-19 protocol violations were inconclusive, inconsistent or a result of miscommunication. The law firm found similar inconsistencies when it came to charges of racist-and-abusive language. Husch Blackwell noted that while Addazio, the Rams’ first-year coach, and his staff have made missteps, some of the concerns stemmed from conduct by former football coach Mike Bobo and assistant coaches who are no longer a part of the program. Addazio and athletic director Joe Parker declined to comment Thursday, through an athletic department spokesman, deferring to a previous statement by university president Joyce McConnell. She wrote in an open letter released late Wednesday that the university will … [Read more...] about Steve Addazio, CSU Rams largely absolved by independent investigation
Army officer sues police for pepper-spraying him, drawing guns during traffic stop
A U.S. Army officer has sued two Virginia police officers over a December incident caught on body camera footage in which the cops drew their guns and pepper-sprayed him. Caron Nazario, a second lieutenant in the Army, said in a lawsuit filed earlier this month that officers violated his constitutional rights during a traffic stop in the southeastern town of Windsor, located about 46 miles west of Virginia Beach. In the footage shared online by The Associated Press , Nazario, who is Black and Latino, can be seen dressed in his uniform and holding his hands up while sitting in his parked car at a gas station as the officers point their guns at him. CU cyberattackers demand ransom for stolen student data, medical information and Social Security numbers
The University of Colorado received extortion demands related to a cyberattack that “potentially compromised” personal information from more than 310,000 files, including student data, medical information and Social Security numbers. The attackers have posted small amounts of data on the dark web and threatened to post more if not paid, CU leaders announced in a news release this morning. CU did not reveal how much money the cyberattackers demanded. “The university does not intend to do so, following guidance from the FBI,” the announcement stated. “Paying would not ensure that data is not posted, now or in the future, or that there would not be additional demands.” CU leaders were informed of an attack on the university’s file-sharing system, run by vendor Accellion, in late January, and immediately shut down the service. CU was one of at least 10 universities and organizations involved in the attack, according to the announcement, and the FBI is investigating. “It’s exhausting.” A year of remote learning wears thin
AMERICUS, Ga. — At first, many schools announced it would last only a couple weeks. A year later, the unplanned experiment with remote learning continues for thousands of students who have yet to set foot back in classrooms. Comfortable homes and private tutors have made it easier for those with access. Expectations are higher at some schools than others. And growing numbers of students are being offered in-person instruction at least part time. But students of all backgrounds have faced struggles with technology, the distractions of home life, and social isolation. The Associated Press followed four students on a typical day to find out how they’re coping a year into the coronavirus pandemic. It’s not quite 9 a.m. and Kristen King is on her living room couch, a Chromebook propped on a TV tray. “It’s been challenging,” says the 17-year-old junior at Americus-Sumter High School in Georgia. “I like hands-on help from my teachers. We can’t really see our friends, like our … [Read more...] about “It’s exhausting.” A year of remote learning wears thin
