Contrary to what Georgia’s governor , Fox News , Newsweek and others have said since Major League Baseball moved the All-Star Game out of the Atlanta area, Colorado’s voter access laws are not more restrictive than Georgia’s. By nearly all measures, Colorado makes it more convenient to vote and is consistently and widely hailed by Democratic and Republican officials alike as among the safest and most accessible states in the U.S. to cast a ballot. The two states are being compared because of MLB moving its annual All-Star Game from the Atlanta Braves’ stadium after Georgia passed a controversial new voting law . Two groups with very different ideas about what drives the cost of health insurance both have their eyes on Garfield County, where residents pay significantly more than similar people living on Colorado’s Front Range. At a community meeting this week, Garfield County Commissioner Tom Jankovsky said residents have told him for years that they can’t afford the cost of health insurance premiums, which are among the state’s highest, in the individual marketplace. Most Coloradans get insurance from their employers, Medicare or Medicaid, but those who aren’t eligible for those have to buy an individual plan on the Connect for Health Colorado marketplace, or go without coverage. A Westminster police officer was injured early Saturday morning when the driver of a pickup truck crashed into the back of the officer’s patrol vehicle, which was stopped at a red light. The three-vehicle crash happened at about 4:30 a.m. at West 88th Avenue and Lowell Boulevard, police said. The officer was westbound, stopped at a red light, when a pickup truck, at a high rate speed, smashed into the patrol vehicle from behind, police said. The patrol vehicle careened into a vehicle in front of it that was also stopped for the light. The drivers of all three vehicles were taken to local hospitals. The officer has been treated and released. The Colorado State Patrol is investigating the crash. The driver of the pickup truck is suspected of driving under the influence, the CSP said. Further information on the injuries of the suspect driver and the third driver was not released Saturday morning.
