Let’s call it growing pains. The Bay Area bar scene is in the thick of an insane growth spurt. It came with a transition from cocktail adolescence. The handful of great bars that opened a decade ago have developed into a collective maturity that has captured the attention of other cities — bigger, cool kid cities on which we’ve long had crushes. We’re getting invited to more of their parties, even though no one asked us to dance at the James Beard Awards this year. With this newfound reputation for cocktails, we’re sprouting what seems like 30 new bars and restaurants a month. Suddenly, we’re gangly and outgrowing everything — including staff. US pharma companies really do want Britain to pay more for drugs
London (CNN Business)When President Donald Trump arrived in the United Kingdom this week, he landed bang in the middle of a huge political fight about the country's National Health Service. One of the biggest issues in the UK election slated for December 12 is what a trade deal with the United States after Brexit might look like, and whether or not it would allow American pharmaceutical companies to charge the NHS more for their drugs. Bill seeks to extend California’s cap-and-trade system to 2030
California’s greenhouse gas cap-and-trade system — one of the main weapons in the state’s fight against global warming — would be extended to 2030, under legislation that Gov. Jerry Brown and legislative leaders unveiled Monday evening. At the same time, the legislation would prevent local air districts in California from imposing their own limits on greenhouse gas emissions from sources already covered under cap and trade. That would effectively kill long-running efforts by Bay Area air quality regulators to place hard limits on emissions of carbon dioxide and other heat-trapping gases from local oil refineries. The legislation, coming in the form of two bills published online at 6:30 p.m. Monday, would continue cap and trade, but with several tweaks. Assembly Bill 398 would establish a ceiling for the price of allowances — essentially, permits to emit one metric ton of greenhouse gases. The current cap-and-trade system sets a floor for prices but does … [Read more...] about Bill seeks to extend California’s cap-and-trade system to 2030
