Schwarber, Realmuto Go Deep Vs Musgrove In Phils’ 6-2 Win
SAN DIEGO (AP) — Big swings by Kyle Schwarber and J.T. Realmuto of the Philadelphia Phillies put an end to Joe Musgrove’s unbeaten start to 2022. Schwarber hit a two-run homer and Realmuto added a three-run shot later in the sixth inning for the Phillies, who handed Musgrove his first loss and snapped a three-game losing streak with a 6-2 victory against the San Diego Padres on Thursday night. It comes from the Latin, meaning literally to "spring back." Resiliency is the ability to bounce back into shape or position, to recover strength, spirits, good humor, and to rapidly recover from illness, change or misfortune. It enables us to continue to be who we have been over time, to continue our direction, our purpose, our very identity in the midst of trial and tribulation. Interestingly, resilience represents both elasticity and perseverance, both our withstanding setbacks of whatever sort and our flexibility to bend but not to break. You are evidencing resilience when you … [Read more...] about Develop Resilience
NHL officiating back under microscope in Stanley Cup Final
(AP) – Jon Cooper backtracked and shifted a possible missed call to the rearview mirror with the expertise of a coach who has been here before. Counterpart Jared Bednar, on the verge of his first NHL championship, sought to settle the issue once and for all and move on. Still, the Stanley Cup Final is roaring toward a conclusion full of uncertainty about the officiating, which is in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons after Nazem Kadri’s overtime goal put the Colorado Avalanche up 3-1 in the best-of-seven series. DENVER, CO – JUNE 18: Tampa Bay Lightning left wing Ondrej Palat (18) and Colorado Avalanche right wing Logan O’Connor (25) are separated by the referee in the third period during the Stanley Cup Finals game 2 between the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Colorado Avalanche at Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado on June 18, 2022. NBA Draft: Why the Nuggets took Kansas’ Christian Braun at No. 21
For years, every time Nuggets GM Calvin Booth scouted future first-round pick Christian Braun, he was always left with a nagging, unsettling question. Braun’s unique playing style, a rare firebrand of basketball, made an impression. But for all of the hustle and feisty competitiveness, the question that lingered with Booth was one of fit. “I comment to myself, ‘Man, that was a nice play, but what is he?’” Booth said after assuaging that question and selecting Braun with the No. 21 pick in Thursday’s NBA draft. When the Nuggets front office traveled to Chicago for the NBA draft combine, something clicked for Booth. He realized that rather than evaluating Braun as a true, two-way wing — the apple of every NBA team’s eye — he should view him as a shooting guard. After all, Braun had guard skills crunched into a long body, which was the result of a late growth spurt. The fact that he had played both small forward and power forward at Kansas had skewed the early perspective. That was … [Read more...] about NBA Draft: Why the Nuggets took Kansas’ Christian Braun at No. 21

Review: John Adams unleashes a demonic powerhouse with S.F. Symphony
Berkeley composer John Adams’ recent piano concerto “Must the Devil Have All the Good Tunes?” gets under way in a fearless barrage and then never stops. It’s a nearly 30-minute powder keg of pounding keyboard harmonies, deliciously off-kilter rhythms and flat-out insolence. It sprints with a swagger. Three years after its world premiere with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, “Must the Devil” entered the San Francisco Symphony’s repertoire on Thursday, June 23, in a powerhouse performance led by Music Director Esa-Pekka Salonen and featuring a stunning debut by the Icelandic pianist Víkingur Ólafsson. There were other wondrous offerings on the program in Davies Symphony Hall as well, by Sibelius and the late Steven Stucky. But it’s hard to focus on those, at least for the moment, because Adams’ extraordinary score demands attention. For starters, it’s rare to hear a piece of music crammed with so many notes. In the two outer movements, the solo piano part (originally written for the … [Read more...] about Review: John Adams unleashes a demonic powerhouse with S.F. Symphony
