Mayor Sandy Stimpson today announced the hiring of Vincent E. Calametti as Major Projects Director for the City of Mobile. “We are very fortunate to have a team of talented public servants who are willing to help us build a better future for the City of Mobile,” Stimpson said. “Vince is a proven leader who will be a great resource for our citizens as we deliver a series of major infrastructure projects in the years ahead.” In his new position, Calametti will have primary responsibility for the City’s management of the Three Mile Creek Greenway Initiative, the Broad Street TIGER Grant and revitalization of the St. Louis Street Corridor. The contest between Southern University and Alabama A&M attracted 23,117 fans to Ladd-Peebles Stadium. The financial impact on the community, according to MSA, was $6,615,776. Of their own accord, a group of student leaders at the University of South Alabama has come together to help their fellow classmates seize local opportunities and make a successful transition from scholars to young working professionals. When Nikolas Hughey, a junior finance major, pitched an idea to start a clothing bank for USA students who may not have the resources to purchase suits and other clothes for post-graduation interviews, he was told the university didn’t have much student involvement in those areas. “So I said, ‘What happens if I head this up and get students on board?’” Hughey recalled.
