Sunday on FNC’s “The Next Revolution,” Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN) discussed his memo urging House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) to recognize the relationship between the Republican Party and working-class Americans. Banks credited former President Donald Trump for establishing that relationship, which he said was vital to the GOP’s future election prospects. “The reason I wrote the memo to Leader McCarthy a couple of weeks ago is because it became clear, it’s become clearer and clearer to me that Donald Trump gave the Republican Party a really important gift,” he said. “I’m not sure that all of my colleagues quite understand that that gift is still sitting right in front of us. And that gift is that, for the first time, more than ever, working-class voters in America identify themselves as Republicans more than they ever did before. Donald Trump did something unprecedented in cementing a relationship with blue-collar, working-class voters and brought them into the Republican … [Read more...] about GOP Rep. The Will Smith movie Emancipation , which is backed by Apple Studios, won’t film in Georgia as originally planned in protest of the state’s recently passed voter integrity law, making it the first major Hollywood production to boycott Georgia over the new legislation. Will Smith and director Antoine Fuqua confirmed the decision in a joint statement to Deadline, which first broke the story Monday. They said they could not “in good conscience provide economic support” to the state. “At this moment in time, the Nation is coming to terms with its history and is attempting to eliminate vestiges of institutional racism to achieve true racial justice. We cannot in good conscience provide economic support to a government that enacts regressive voting laws that are designed to restrict voter access,” they said. “The new Georgia voting laws are reminiscent of voting impediments that were passed at the end of Reconstruction to prevent many Americans from voting. Regrettably, we feel … [Read more...] about Will Smith Pulls Slave Drama ‘Emancipation’ Out of Georgia in Protest of Voter Integrity Law
Following a high-profile organizing campaign that drew international attention, workers at Amazon’s fulfillment center in Bessemer, Alabama, have voted overwhelming against joining a union. While National Labor Relations Board officials are still sifting through contested votes, the anti-union forces lead by almost a 3-1 margin. The emphatic rejection was a bitter blow to the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union, which launched the first-ever drive to organize an Amazon warehouse. Its fight to organize the largely African American workforce was likened to past civil rights struggles in Alabama and cast as a “David vs. Goliath” parable by sympathetic reporters . But the blowout in Bessemer also is a rebuff to Sen. The previous few weeks have been a maelstrom of higher costs for families as both New York and the federal government weigh hefty new taxes. Facing massive budget deficits in coming years, the Empire State passed a raft of new taxes targeting the wealthy; some high-earning New York City residents will see their marginal tax rate skyrocket to over 50 percent . Meanwhile, the White House weighs hefty new federal taxes on businesses and the wealthy. The sharp increases underscore a deepening trend of residents bolting from high-tax environs like New York, Illinois, California, and Connecticut for more competitive ones. The hikes come during a time of economic tumult and an exodus caused by the pandemic. Indeed, within specific low-tax states are cities with combined diminished rates and affordable standards of living. To determine the cities with the lowest tax rate income and property taxes must be considered, along with other levies such as sales, vehicle, corporate, … [Read more...] about Are you thinking of moving soon?
