Tech & Science food recalls 2018 The U.S. experienced a nationwide romaine lettuce recall earlier this year after E.coli contamination led to the hospitalization of 89 and the death of five. However, lettuce is by far not the only food that has been recalled in 2018, which leaves us wondering what actually is still safe to eat? Food recalls occur when there is a discovery of an organism in a product that can make consumers ill. For example, in the case of the recent lettuce recall this was due to the existence of the bacteria E.coli in the lettuce. However, recalls can also occur when there is a potential allergen in the product or when there is mislabeling or misbranding of the food, such as the existence of ingredients that are not listed on the label, FoodSafety.gov reported. Check your freezers: Tyson Foods just issued a chicken recall — and there’s a decent chance that you’re affected. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service issued the advisory on Friday, reporting that the huge food manufacturer is recalling about 3,120 pounds of frozen breaded chicken that could have "extraneous materials" mixed in — mainly blue and clear soft plastic. The chicken — sold under the Tyson Foods brand as "uncooked, breaded, original chicken tenderloins" were produced in May and have a lot code of 1378NLR02 and an establishment number of "P-746" on the package. Tyson Foods Inc. has announced the recall of more than 3,000 pounds of frozen chicken that may be contaminated with plastic. The recall affects about 3,120 pounds of frozen, uncooked and breaded chicken tenderloins produced on May 17 because the product may have been contaminated with blue and clear soft plastic, the USDA announced Friday. No adverse reactions have been confirmed. The chicken was sold to food services nationwide, not directly to consumers. The product recalled is a 12-pound box containing 3-pound plastic bags of "Uncooked, Breaded Original Chicken Tenderloins" with lot code 1378NLR02. OVER 228,000 POUNDS OF HORMEL CANNED PORK AND CHICKEN PRODUCTS RECALLED FOR PIECES OF METAL 1/1Over 228,000 pounds of Hormel canned pork and chicken products recalled for pieces of metal (CNN) – Hormel Foods is recalling more than 228,000 pounds of canned pork and chicken products. The reason? They may be contaminated with pieces of metal. The U.S. Department of Agriculture says the products in question were produced from February 18th through February 10th of this year. They include 12 ounce metal cans of Hormel “Spam Classic” with a best-by date of February 2021 and 12-ounce metal cans of “Hormel Foods Black Label Luncheon Loaf” also as a February 2021 best-by date. Now the Spam cans were shipped across the U.S. But the “Black Label” cans were only sent to the U.S. Pacific Island Territory of Guam.
