As the academic year begins to wind down at area colleges and universities, the end-of-year concert season is gearing up. Five free vocal and instrumental performances are scheduled this weekend. The performance will be conducted by Dr. Jonathan Rodgers. All three ensembles will combine for a performance of Haydn's "The Creation." The three-part composition depicts the story of creation as told through Genesis and Milton's "Paradise Lost." Professors of voice Lenena Brezna, soprano; Tony Deaton, baritone; and James Frost, tenor, will be featured soloists throughout the work. Timothy Muffit, music director of the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra, will conduct the CSO Thursday, April 5, at 7:30 p.m. in the Tivoli Theatre, 709 Broad St. Scottish pianist Geoffrey Duce from Illinois State University will be the guest artist, performing the Tchaikovsky concerto. Prior to the concert, ticketholders are invited to join Cahill Smith, Lee University professor of piano studies, to learn more about the Tchaikovsky work.
