TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy on Wednesday named a staffer for U.S. Sen. Cory Booker and member of the Rev. Al Sharpton’s National Action Network to the new state commission charged with setting up and regulating recreational marijuana. Charles Barker’s nomination came after the state NAACP pointed out that the five-member board did not include any Black men. Barker is Black. Ironic, isn’t it? If Tad Boyle had a better record in the NCAA Tournament, someone would’ve Mel Tuckered him a long time ago. With the exception of 2020, we see it every March: Somebody new reaches the Sweet 16. The Mr. Monopoly boosters at a bigger school then throw stupid money at said Sweet 16 coach, daring him to turn it down. Usually, he doesn’t. Charles Barkley and the rest of the March Madness studio wonks should be talking about Boyle, the longtime CU Buffs basketball coach, in the same breath as Purdue’s Matt Painter or Maryland’s Mark Turgeon. Straight arrows. Serial winners. Since 1946, CU has produced only 17 seasons in which the men’s basketball program won more than 63% of their games. Boyle’s been at the helm for eight of them. Over the last 75 years, the Buffs have managed just 15 squads that went on to win at least 10 conference tilts in a campaign. Seven of those are Tad teams. Ohio State forward E.J. Liddell shared offensive comments, including racial slurs and threats of violence, posted to his Instagram account after the Buckeye’s 75-72 loss to Oral Roberts on Friday in the first major upset of the NCAA Tournament. Charles Barkley responded immediately, calling the people responsible for the posts “losers” and “cowards,” and Ohio State sports officials announced they have called the police to report the “vile” and “dangerous” threats to their players. Messages included one that read, “I hope somebody shoot you in ya face,” and that he wants to “kill” Liddell. Another said, “You are such a f—ing disgrace.
