Chase Stevens Las Vegas Review-Journal @csstevensphoto About 315,000 people are expected to visit Las Vegas over the Labor Day weekend, in line with the number of visitors predicted for the holiday since at least 2014. The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority’s prediction puts Labor Day visitation about equal to New Year’s but slightly below predictions for Memorial Day weekend. “Three-day weekends are always popular in Las Vegas, particularly Memorial Day and Labor Day as they traditionally begin and end the summer travel season,” spokesman Jeremy Handel said. LVCVA’s prediction puts the visitation count for Labor Day at three times the attendance rate for the biggest convention in Las Vegas, the … [Read more...] about 315K tourists expected in Las Vegas during Labor Day weekend

French Labour Minister Muriel Penicaud leaves the Elysee Palace in Paris, France, after attending a governmental meeting, Monday, Aug. 28, 2017. As France's political world comes back from summer vacations, Macron met with government ministers Monday and told them "I hope that you are well-rested ... and that you have regained your strength to attack this return to work." (AP Photo/Francois Mori) PARIS — France’s labor minister, Muriel Penicaud, has been summoned for questioning Tuesday in an investigation into a Las Vegas tech party. Paris prosecutors are investigating suspected irregularities in the organization of a costly, high-profile event at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show. French President Emmanuel Macron, then economy minister, headlined the event. The investigation doesn’t target him directly. The company that organized the “French Tech Night” event, advertising firm Havas, is suspected of having done so without undergoing open tender … [Read more...] about French investigate labor minister while at CES in Las Vegas
It’s been a full year since CNET saw a big dose of adult entertainment delivered via a VR headset. Naughty America, one of several studios delivering wraparound 3D video content for VR, is back in Las Vegas and CES with a meeting room and demos of its films. Not much has changed, based on a quick demo I tried. It was pretty bizarre to wait on a line full of quiet men to demo this at a trade show like CES, but...yes, this content still is familiar territory. In case you haven’t used porn in VR, know that most of it is 360-degree video, or -- in Naughty America’s case -- 180 degree. In 3D. And, with surprisingly good video quality (the files are downloaded and sideloaded onto your device, versus being streamed). But new tech is on the horizon soon: namely, haptics and AR. If you’re ready. A partnership with adult sex toy Kiiroo, coming by the first or second quarter of this year, will mean timed haptic interactions timed to what’s going on in … [Read more...] about CBS News Logo CES 2017: Augmented reality pornography is on its way?

The Las Vegas Strip as seen from a hot air balloon. (K.M. Cannon/Las Vegas Review-Journal) Convention attendance was off 16.7 percent and January visitor volume was down 3.3 percent, but the average daily room rate soared for the month to the highest level in history, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority reported Wednesday. In addition, state gaming win cracked the $1 billion barrier for the first time in a year, but the Strip showed the steepest monthly decline among 20 markets monitored in Nevada, according to the state Gaming Control Board. The three-month win average, generally a better indicator of gaming trends than monthly reports, also was down. LVCVA analysts said shifts in convention dates hurt January numbers. Downtown’s International Market Center, a home decor trade show, which drew 50,000 people, and Surfaces, a flooring show that brought in 24,000 attendees, moved from January to February this year. Giant CES, Southern Nevada’s largest trade show … [Read more...] about Las Vegas visitation slips, but Nevada gaming win cracks $1B mark
