The second annual Columbus Caribbean Festival, a three-day event, offered a chance for Columbus residents to experience and learn more about the culture and heritage of the islands through food, performances and shopping. “It’s celebrating the culture and heritage of Caribbean islands right here in Columbus,” said Trish Drake, one of the event producers. “The Caribbean islands are a top vacation spot, so now people can celebrate here in Ohio.” Festival attendees shopped at a variety of vendor stands and food trucks during the festival. CLEVELAND, Ohio - Dry air and windy conditions are contributing to an increased risk of wildfires today in parts of northwest and north-central Ohio. The National Weather Service in Cleveland issued a "red flag warning" to alert locals and fire managers that outdoor burning, or prescribed burns, are not recommended through the evening. It's not your usual warning from the weather service, and they are definitely not common in northern Ohio. Fire weather watch upgraded to red flag warning for majority of Ohio today due to increased risk of wildfires Typically, a fire weather watch is issued first in advance of the weather forecast to contribute to the risk of wildfires, and once the conditions are ongoing, the watch will be upgraded to a red flag warning. CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The National Weather Service in Cleveland issued a fire weather watch for counties in northwest and north-central Ohio Tuesday afternoon through early that evening. A fire weather watch indicates weather that is conducive to spreading wildfires, not that a wildfire is currently ongoing. Typically, that's very dry air and breezy winds. According to the watch, the National Weather Service says humidity levels across the region are expected to drop near 25 percent, and winds are expected to exceed 15 mph. These conditions are without a doubt "favorable for spreading wildfires," says the weather service. WILMINGTON, Ohio (AP) — National Weather Service survey teams have confirmed at least four tornadoes slammed through parts of Ohio. The strongest appeared to be in Grove City, near Columbus in central Ohio. It had estimated winds of 100 to 110 mph that damaged hundreds of homes, buildings and utility poles Tuesday. Another tornado touched down north of Xenia in western Ohio, damaging several barns and killing five sheep. One near Selma in Clark County destroyed a barn and damaged several other buildings. GROVE CITY, Ohio (AP) — Authorities have been rescuing people from their homes and cars who've been stranded by flooding in western and central Ohio in the aftermath of three tornadoes.Firefighters in Fairfield County near Lancaster shuttled out at least a dozen people early Wednesday after neighborhoods were surrounded by several feet of water. In the Springfield area, crews rescued a woman trapped in her car by high water and a man who came to help after she drove around a road closed sign.The flooding follows strong winds that knocked down utility poles and wires and damaged buildings Tuesday.
