Texas Towns Cope with Migrant Wave Not Tested for Coronavirus
President Joe Biden’s deputies are dropping many poor migrants with coronavirus into Americans’ neighborhoods, according to a report in the New York Times . On February 23, the newspaper reported a statement about the drop-offs they say came from Juan “Trey” Mendez, the mayor of Brownsville: “If it’s several hundred overnight, then that’s something that would become overwhelming for us,” said Mr. Mendez. “The administration is very well aware of that — we’ve conveyed that on numerous occasions.” Elsewhere on the border, local officials are decrying the administration’s policy of dumping the poor migrants into Americans’ neighborhoods. CNN reported February 19: … communities along the border in Texas have expressed concern about migrants being released during the pandemic. Biden’s Pentagon can exploit China’s population decline
China conducted its seventh national population census in November and December. The results are startling. China’s downward human spiral is accelerating, according to the government’s new numbers . This isn’t just a social and economic problem for China. It threatens the country’s geostrategic position in the long term and international security in the short term. U.S. foreign and defense policymakers should pay close attention to how Beijing responds to the news. Chinese mothers bore fewer babies in 2020 than in any year since 1961. Some provinces reported a 30 percent drop. This, on top of nearly a decade of contraction in working-age Chinese citizens is speeding up the pace of population aging. By 2050, a Chinese government think tank announced , there will be only one worker supporting each dependent old person; today there are two workers supporting each elderly person. By comparison, China’s old-age dependency ratio, a key indicator of future economic stability, has … [Read more...] about Biden’s Pentagon can exploit China’s population decline
Joe Biden Voices Concern About Future of Critical Supply Chains in America
President Joe Biden ordered a review of critical supply chains Wednesday, acknowledging concerns about America’s ability to acquire critical items for manufacturing. The president spoke after meeting with a bipartisan group of members of Congress to discuss the issue. “This is a critical area where Republicans and Democrats agreed, it was one of the best meetings I think we’ve had so far,” he said, noting that he had been president for about five weeks. “It was like the old days, people were actually on the same page.” Biden focused on recent glaring examples of shortages of personal protective equipment during the height of the coronavirus pandemic and recent shortages of semiconductor chips, slowing auto manufacturing. The president did not specifically mention America’s over-reliance on countries like China for critical supplies but hinted about the dangers that the country faced. “We shouldn’t have to rely on a foreign country, especially one that doesn’t share our … [Read more...] about Joe Biden Voices Concern About Future of Critical Supply Chains in America
