LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Officials believe a mountain lion has managed to cross at least two freeways to settle down at Griffith Park. A motion-triggered camera that surveys wildlife in the park captured an image in February of the 3-year-old male known as P-22, according to the Los Angeles Times, who was later captured and fit with a locator collar. P-22 is believed to have traveled up to 20 miles from the Santa Monica Mountains, past the Hollywood (101) and San Diego (405) freeways to make its home in the eight-square-mile park, the newspaper reported. After wolves rebound across the West, future up to voters
YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. — The saucer-sized footprints in the mud around the bloody, disemboweled bison carcass were unmistakable: wolves. A pack of 35 named after a nearby promontory, Junction Butte, now were snoozing on a snow-dusted hillside above the carcass. Tourists dressed against the weather watched the pack through spotting scopes from about a mile away. “Wolves are my main thing. There’s something about their eyes — it’s mystifying,” said Ann Moore, who came from Ohio to fulfill a life-long wish to glimpse the animals. Such encounters have become daily occurrences in Yellowstone after gray wolves rebounded in parts of the American West with remarkable speed following their reintroduction 25 years ago.It started with a few dozen wolves brought in crates from Canada to Yellowstone and central Idaho. Others wandered down into northwest Montana. Thriving on big game herds, the population boomed to more than 300 packs comprising some … [Read more...] about After wolves rebound across the West, future up to voters
Ranking 2021 Pac-12 football schedules: Sept. 11 stands as key day in momentous season
The Pac-12 is expected to release its 2021 football schedule later this month — perhaps much later — but only the dates are missing. We have everything else. The Hotline rounded up the non-conference games. We know the home-road split for division games and, yes, we have the cross-division matchups. All the opponents and locations are laid out below in the latest installment of our look-ahead series: A deep dive into the 2021 schedules. Before we plunge into the weeds, three broad strokes: 1) Sept. 11, 2021 stands as the most important day of the season and, perhaps, one of the most significant Saturdays in conference history. A few weeks ago, the Hotline argued that the upcoming fall is vital for the future of the Pac-12 . To that end, success in 2021 will depend heavily on the results of Sept. 11 — Week Two — when the Pac-12 has four games against Power Five competition: Colorado vs. Texas A&M (Denver), Cal at TCU, Washington at Michigan, and Oregon at Ohio … [Read more...] about Ranking 2021 Pac-12 football schedules: Sept. 11 stands as key day in momentous season
Pac-12 stock report (special edition): Our post-National Signing Day recruiting analysis for 2021
Welcome to a special edition of the stock report: We’re wrapping up the 2020-21 recruiting cycle, even though — as we’ll explain below — there is a gigantic fish still swimming. Rising: Pac-12. For the first time since 2012, the conference placed two teams in the top-10 of the 247sports composite rankings (No. 6 Oregon and No. 8 USC). Equally significant, the California exodus slowed: Six of the state’s top-10 recruits signed with Pac-12 teams. If either Washington, Oregon or USC is able to land five-star defensive lineman J.T. Tuimoloau — the Seattle-area prospect hasn’t signed — then the 2020-21 recruiting season just might be remembered as a victory for the conference. Falling: Pac-12. The news wasn’t all positive, however. For all the success at the top with Oregon and USC, there was a noticeable absence of quality depth: The third highest-ranked class in the conference was merely No. 27 nationally (Cal). This marks the first time in the 20-year history of the 247sports … [Read more...] about Pac-12 stock report (special edition): Our post-National Signing Day recruiting analysis for 2021
