When does the holiday season officially begin. Some say it's on Black Friday, or when they put down one last fork of pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving night. Others say it's when Santa Claus arrives at the mall, which in the case of Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg this year, it was a very early Nov. 1. And yet others are willing to wait until the kids are out from school for winter break before ushering in the season. For our money, we'll take our hometowns' annual tree-lighting festivities as the official kick off to the holidays. A few suburbs got the celebration off to an early start with tree lightings last week.
