Canada elections today will decide who leads the country for the next four years as Prime Minister. The latest elections are seen as a threat to incumbent Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who is hoping to secure a second term in office for the Liberal Party. Polls are suggesting neither Mr Trudeau nor his closest opponents will be able to score the majority they need. Canada’s recent election cycle has been defined by a war of insults, as parties trade blows in hopes to discredit one another. Canadian residents are finding difficulty focusing on what aspects of public policy are the most important to them, according to Canadian pollster Nik Nanos. Talking to CNN, Mr Nanos warned today’s elections were "a desert from a public policy point of view”. Justin Trudeau is fighting for his political life after a series of scandals this year rocked his campaign for re-election. The Canadian elections are taking place today as millions cast their vote. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his Liberals are hoping to hold on to their majority despite having been deadlocked with their centre-right Conservative rivals in the five-week-long campaign. More than 27 million Canadians are registered to vote for the 2019 elections, and polls are showing the smaller parties could play kingmaker as the result is headed towards a hung parliament. Smaller parties are fighting to emerge as powerbrokers as experts believe no clear winner will emerge from the vote. Mr Trudeau has already acknowledged there was a good chance the opposition Conservatives could win more votes.
