CBS News Logo Caitlyn Jenner confronts protesters who call her “an insult to trans people”

Caitlyn Jenner is receiving backlash from the transgender community. After the "I Am Cait" star gave a speech during a luncheon in Chicago, Illinois on Thursday, she was confronted by protesters outside the venue. The 65-year-old former Olympian stopped to address one protester, who over the loudspeaker could be heard saying, "You are an insult to trans people, you are an insult to women." Caitlyn spoke to a group of 1,000 people at the 7th annual Speaker Series luncheon for the Chicago House, which provides social services for those impacted by HIV/AIDS and other LGBT issues. In a video from the altercation, the reality star appears to try and diffuse the protester, before being escorted away by her security. "The chaos outside was a great contrast to the uplifting atmosphere inside where Caitlyn had just given her speech," B96 Chicago radio personality Showbiz Shelly, who witnessed the confrontation, tells ET. "I thought she handled the situation with poise. By confronting the protesters in the way she did, she emphasized the themes she talked about in her speech. To be respectful, be brave and stand up for what you believe in." The event's MC, Christina Kahrl, says that Caitlyn was an obvious pick to headline the fundraiser. "The point was to get people to come and talk about trans issues," Kahrl tells ET. "Because she's been the subject of media scrutiny for decades, she's in a unique position to take whatever criticism she gets for speaking out on behalf of trans people who need help. She owns the fact that she has a ton of privilege." "It's a little frustrating," Kahrl says, that a small group of protesters showed up at an event to benefit Chicago House's Trans Life Center. "We've got to raise money to benefit trans Chicagoans, and Caitlyn Jenner's going to be a great draw." A production source confirms to ET that "I Am Cait" cameras were rolling at the event for the show's second season. Caitlyn's castmates, Candis Cayne, Jenny Boylan, Kate Bornstein, were Continue Reading

Caitlyn Jenner keeps her lips sealed on love life and ‘girl’s nights’ in ‘Today’ interview, but admits ‘massive panic attack’ from her transition

Caitlyn Jenner is overjoyed to finally be having fun with her fellow girls — but when it comes to her love life, she’s keeping her lips sealed. The “I Am Cait” star dodged details about her new love life in the second part of her “Today” interview with Matt Lauer Thursday morning, but briefly recalled the first fears she faced before becoming a woman. Speaking with Lauer while golfing in Los Angeles, Jenner laughed off his questions about what her "type" is. CAITLYN JENNER TALKS FEARS OF GOING TO MEN'S JAILOVER FATAL CAR CRASH “Honestly, i just don’t even know that,” Jenner said. “I don’t even want to go there. Right now I’m just happy living (as) myself...I'll cross that bridge when I come to it, I just want to enjoy myself right now.” And enjoying herself she certainly is — the 65-year-old Olympic star said she loves having regular “girl’s nights” now, after secretly starting them about two years ago when she began her gender transition. But she wouldn’t even say much about that either, skimping specifics on how she and the girls have fun. CAITLYN JENNER TALKS CANDIS CAYNE DATING RUMORS ON 'ELLEN' “We laugh, we have a good time, we do what any other girls do,” Jenner told Lauer. And she strongly prefers the company of women, calling them "more tolerant" of her transition than her male friends. Part two of Jenner's "Today" talk was lighter than Wednesay's interview, which focused on the misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter charge Jenner could face for a fatal car accident last February.  In that interview, Jenner said she feared getting sent to a men's jail, calling it "a worst case scenario" for a transexual woman. Thursday's interview mostly stuck to softer topics, save for when Jenner talked about her struggles after Continue Reading

Caitlyn Jenner’s ‘I Am Cait’ reportedly renewed for surprise second season despite low ratings

Caitlyn Jenner’s reality TV series “I Am Cait” is reportedly getting a second chance. A source close to the show says E! renewed Jenner’s show for a second season that could air in March 2016, BuzzFeed is reporting. Another season seemed far-fetched after a lackluster first season that failed to attract ample ratings surrounding the 65-year-old’s transition to living as a woman. KRIS JENNER: I CAN'T CALL CAITLYN JENNER BY HER NEW NAME A publicist for Jenner told the Daily News he had “no knowledge” of “I Am Cait” being renewed as of early Monday. E! declined to comment on the show’s renewal, according to BuzzFeed. Viewership dropped by half after the show’s first episode with its lowest rating on Aug. 23 — only a viewership of 1.02 as Jenner attended an event during NYC’s Pride Week. The eight episode series followed the former Olympic athlete’s journey to living as a trans woman, often bringing transgender women, such as Candis Cayne and Jennifer Finney Boylan, along to enlighten Jenner on social and economic issues endured by those with a gender identity disorder. But the show was often scrutinized by trans activists because Jenner voiced conservative beliefs that conflicted with their highly-sought gender rights such as low-income subsidies. The show attracted only a small fraction of the 16.9 million viewers that tuned into watch Jenner big reveal to Diane Sawyer in April, her long-rumored transition to living as a woman. News of Jenner's renewal comes as a possible misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter charge looms over the reality star. Continue Reading

Caitlyn Jenner questions sexuality, hits the pool in new ‘I Am Cait’ preview

Caitlyn Jenner is still learning as she navigates her new reality. In a preview for the next episode of the docu-series"I am Cait" — airing Sunday night on E — the reality star can't come up with a straight answer when she and several other transgender women are asked during a dinner party, "Who's more attracted to men?" Transgender model and rumored girlfriend, Candis Cayne, quickly throws her hand up in the footage, but Jenner quickly puts her hand down. "I don't know," she then answers. The 30-second clip also shows that not everyone is happy with how Caitlyn is living her new life. "I'm just afraid that you're kind of in the midst of this new world and you're forgetting some of the people that you love," says one new friend of the reality star. In happier news, Jenner — who opened up about swimsuit insecurities in Sunday night's episode — seems to be growing more comfortable in a bathing suit. Next week's teaser shows her in a white one-piece. "The ability to grow is directly related to the amount of insecurity you can take in your life," she says poolside. But Jenner is still coming to grips with her identity. When someone asks her what she's most nervous about, she chokes back tears while discussing her family. "I want them to be proud of their daddy," says Jenner. ON A MOBILE DEVICE? WATCH THE VIDEO HERE. Continue Reading

Caitlyn Jenner to skip ESPY Awards red carpet and avoid press after collecting trophy

Caitlyn Jenner has already found her inner diva. [email protected] has learned that the woman of the hour will skip the red carpet before Wednesday’s ESPY Awards. The July 15 awards show was hotly anticipated as Jenner’s first red carpet appearance since transitioning from Bruce to Caitlyn. The Vanity Fair covergirl, who will receive the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at ESPN’s annual awards show, has told show bosses that she won’t be doing interviews with any media outlets — including ESPN — and plans to skip the press room as well, where winners often answer questions from reporters after collecting their trophies. We’re told organizers are still in the dark about whether the former Olympic champ will make a speech when she accepts the honor on the stage of the Nokia Theater in L.A. It’s expected Jenner will be followed by the production team for her E! series “I Am Cait” leading up to the event, although it’s unclear whether they will be allowed to film inside the venue. CAITLYN JENNER TO RECEIVE ESPY AWARD FROM ASHE'S DAUGHTER In June, TMZ reported that Jenner was expected to be joined on stage by all of her 10 kids. And last month during New York Pride celebrations, Jenner was in town joining the festivities, including attending a pride event at the Dream Hotel, shopping at Patricia Field on the Bowery and hitting the Great White Way with transgender actress Candis Cayne. Jenner’s decision to skip the press line is surprising, considering she’s hardly been a shrinking violet since announcing she was transitioning into a woman, having given lengthy interviews to Vanity Fair, ABC and E! And on June 2, Caitlyn Jenner tweeted, “What the hell am I going to wear?” with a link to the ESPN press release announcing she would receive the Ashe award. On Friday an event organizer confirmed: “Caitlyn will not walk the red carpet and is not doing any media at Continue Reading

Caitlyn Jenner and Kendall Jenner wear matching Mother jeans

These jeans must run in their genes. Caitlyn Jenner and daughter Kendall Jenner have been wearing matching denim from a company called Mother. Kendall got a leg up working the Stunner Ankle Fray jean in “Graffiti Girl” wash on Thursday, while Caitlyn opted for the Looker Ankle Fray in a lighter “Tourist Trap” wash earlier this week. “I love that both women take our classic ankle fray jeans and adapt it to their own personal style while also showing that fashion has no age,” says Mother co-founder, Lela Becker. Kendall, 19, dressed down her tastefully shredded high-rise darker blues with a white v-neck tee, brown booties and a plaid shirt knotted around her waist while walking through Los Angeles International Airport on Thursday. Caitlyn, 65, paired her faded cropped pants with a more conservative white, long-sleeved blouse and matching white belt with a pair of flat strappy sandals on Tuesday. The classy and casual ensemble was for a movie date with Candis Cayne in Westlake Village, Calif., according to TMZ. The “I Am Cait” costars caught a matinee screening of “Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation.” Caitlyn Jenner has already made the designer denim brand one of her closet staples. She donned the line’s Looker Skinny jean in a dark “Here Kitty, Kitty” wash during the “I Am Cait” premiere two weeks ago. She also famously sported a pair Mother’s classic cropped Looker skinny jeans in an Instagram group photo she posted after unveiling her Vanity Fair cover in June. Kendall has also recycled her ankle fray pants, having been snapped wearing them in Los Angeles and France recently. The jeans are $196 at Continue Reading

Caitlyn Jenner says Kourtney Kardashian will be ‘OK’ after Scott Disick split in new ‘I Am Cait’ promo

Caitlyn Jenner believes Kourtney Kardashian will be just fine as she moves on from her longtime boyfriend. The reality star, 65, said in this week’s promo for “I Am Cait” that her step-daughter is doing well two months after her split from Scott Disick, the father of her three children. “She's doing as well as she can do under the circumstances," Jenner confides to best friend Candis Cayne. "It's obviously very tough on her.” “Obviously Scott has a lot of issues and she's trying to deal with them the best she can,” she says. Kardashian kicked Disick to the curbearlier this summer after photos emerged of him cozying up with ex-girlfriend Chloe Bartoli at a yacht club in Monte Carlo. The 36-year-old reality star has regularly shared photos on social media of her spending time with family. Disick, meanwhile, has often been seen out partying since the breakup. Despite the challenges that have come with the split, Jenner believes the eldest of the Kardashian trio will persevere. “She'll be OK,” Jenner says. “Relationships aren't easy.” Kardashian appears to be in good spirits right now as she vacations in St. Barts. The mother of three has been seen out on the beach in a gold bikini while spending time with her family. Meanwhile, Disick appears to be having a good time as well right now, as he shared a couple of Instagram photos from his trip to Mexico on Thursday. “Had to get the last bit of sun in,” he captioned a photo of him lying on the wing of a jet. Even though he is enjoying the party scene, Disick stills hopes to win Kardashian back, Us Weekly reports. “Scott texts Kourtney ‘I still love you’ and ‘I want you so bad’ all day and night,” an insider told the mag, adding that Kardashian is “starting to forgive him.” Continue Reading

Caitlyn Jenner shares swimsuit struggles on ‘I Am Cait,’ opens up about feelings for Candis Cayne

Caitlyn Jenner has been named the brave face of the transgender community, but one thing even makes her feel scared — a bathing suit. During the latest "I Am Cait" episode, the reality TV star attended a girls' trip to a beautiful house in San Francisco and the amenities included a hot tub. All Jenner's friends were excited to relax in the heated water, but she admitted that she was "in no rush." "This process of coming out, doesn't happen overnight," she explained in the dramatic clip. "There are so many hurdles to overcome. "Everyday it seems like, 'What about a bathing suit?' See, I can't even say it. It's hard for it just to come out saying 'a bathing suit.' But that's where I got to get and it's going to take time." Swimwear wasn't the only thing the former Olympian was nervous about during the trip. "You need a sexy (outfit) for Candis," Ronda Kamihira, Jenner's friend, mentioned while packing for the getaway. Although she never fully revealed that she had a crush on her pal Candis Cayne, who she has been seen in public with her several times, she does share that she does find her attractive. "These girls won't give up," Jenner said after being asked about her relationship with the transgendered actress. "Candis is a beautiful woman, but as far as dating in the future, I have absolutely no idea." ON A MOBILE DEVICE? WATCH VIDEO HERE Continue Reading
