SOMERVILLE (CBS) – A factory in Somerville is making more than 100 kinds of pasta, with traditions dating back generations. Deano Matarazzo of Deano’s Pasta has a family history of linguini. “It was really a tight, tight family unit and always revolving around the center of our universe was pasta,” he told WBZ-TV. “Literally we all started when we were 7, 8 years old.” Dean’s grandfather started making long hair pasta at his original location in Medford in 1947. CDC Study Finds Airlines Should Leave Middle Seat Empty To Reduce COVID Spread
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) – Commercial airlines which leave their middle seats empty on flights can greatly reduce the transmission of COVID-19, according to a new study published Wednesday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The study, conducted by the CDC and Kansas State University , found that the spread of COVID-19 was reduced by anywhere from 23% to 57% — depending on the modeling and the type of cabin arrangement — when airlines left the middle seat vacant, compared to when they operated at full capacity. Hyatt Regency Denver Tech Center sells for less than half of what owner paid in 2016
In the largest sale of a Denver-area hotel since the pandemic began, a 461-room property in the Denver Tech Center has changed hands for less than half the price it fetched in 2016. The Hyatt Regency Denver Tech Center at 7800 E. Tufts Ave. last week sold to HRDTC Hotel Owner LLC, an entity affiliated with Ontario-based Westmont Hospitality Management. The sale price was $41.54 million, according to public records. That’s a 57 percent drop from when the seller, CP Denver LLC — an entity affiliated with Columbia Sussex Management — purchased the property. It paid $96 million in September 2016, records show. Westmont and Columbia Sussex did not respond to separate requests for comment on Monday. New York-based Square Mile Capital provided financing for last week’s deal, according to loan documents. The same firm also provided a loan for the 2016 transaction. The Hyatt Regency has 451 rooms, according to the seller’s website. It is one of the 10 largest hotels in the metro … [Read more...] about Hyatt Regency Denver Tech Center sells for less than half of what owner paid in 2016
Surging gasoline prices reignite metro Denver’s inflation rate
Flat rents and moderating food costs weren’t enough to prevent a spike in gasoline prices from driving a four-fold increase in metro Denver’s previously subdued inflation rate last month, according to an update from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics . Consumer inflation in the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood area, which is measured every two months, accelerated at a 1.6% annual pace in March, up from a 0.4% annual pace in January and a 0.3% pace in November. Denver’s inflation remains below the 2% pace averaged last year and the 2.6% annual pace measured in the U.S. in March. It isn’t raging, but after going dormant, inflation is increasing in ways consumers will notice. As anyone filling up the tank lately knows, gasoline prices aren’t where they were last year . Motor fuel costs in metro Denver are up 35.3% from March 2020 and up 22.1% from January, according to the BLS. Electricity prices are also on the rise, and energy costs of all types are up 18.6% year-over-year. … [Read more...] about Surging gasoline prices reignite metro Denver’s inflation rate
