Oh, la la latex! Britney Spears, other stars embrace rubber clothes

Latex line Syren is in for a serious sales boost thanks to Britney Spears. The pop star poured her ample curves into a skin-tight rubber vest by the brand while playing a sexy waitress in her "Womanizer" music video. S&M-inspired skintight black pants and form-fitting dresses have cropped up on Victoria Beckham, Janet Jackson, Lindsay Lohan and the Pussycat Dolls, among others. PHOTOS: PARIS' NAUGHTY NEW LOOKSSure, the trend is popular because of its sheer hotness factor, but it also works for many different body types, according to Syren designer Jeffrey Gent.. RELATED STORY: VICTORIA BECKHAM'S MIND-BOGGLING BOOTS"The nice thing about latex is you can manipulate your body under it," he told the Daily News. "Women like it because [it works] like a Miracle Bra. Depending on how tight it is, you can also draw your waist in." Gent expects Spears' $199 crop top, re-christened "The Britney Vest," to fly off shelves - despite its semi-hefty price tag. "Every time we do something for a celebrity, the sales go way up," he explained. But Spears isn't the only star moving merch for the line. Jackson and sultry Pussycat Dolls frontwoman Nicole Scherzinger are also big fans.  Scherzinger has worn Syren creations to a bevvy of performances, photo shoots and red carpet appearances this year alone - including a memorable $326 custom-made strapless number she worked at a Vodafone bash in September.Despite - or because of - its naughty nature, the rubber look isn't expected to die down anytime soon. High fashion designers such as Karl Lagerfeld and Vivienne Westwood sent several pieces down the runway last month as part of their Spring 2009 collections.Want to give the trend a try? While you don't have to have a smokin' hot body like Britney or Nicole to pull it off, confidence is definitely required."Latex is so form-fitting that you almost feel naked when Continue Reading

Britney Spears: Sugar is ‘Toxic’

Britney Spears has given her beloved Starbucks Frappuccinos  - and sugar  - the boot in order to get her figure back. "I'm the healthiest I've been all my life," the pop star told OK! magazine. The 26-year-old mother of two turned heads in early August after debuting a trim 'n' toned figure and new blond hair extensions during a shopping excursion with a pal. Spears also showed off her slim physique while hanging out with friends in late July next to a pool in Mexico. She credits her diet for getting her body back into enviable shape. "I have no sugar. I don¹t eat fruit or even fruit juice because of the sugar," she said. "I eat chicken and salmon and rice. I eat avocados. I¹ll have egg whites for breakfast and sometimes turkey burgers for lunch. I try to do just 1,200 calories a day. It may sound like it's not much, but it's actually a lot of food if you eat the right things." And she's hitting the gym - often. The "Gimme More" singer works out five days a week, doing "a lot of cardio and weights." The goal, she says, is to get "cut." Spears' new figure is an outward sign of her recovery following a very rocky year. The Grammy Award winner was hospitalized several times for a mental illness and lost custody of her sons to ex-husband Kevin Federline.  She's also working on a new album, reportedly due to hit shelves in mid-December. Britney Spears following tragic trail blazed by Anna Nicole Smith

A troubled blonde from rural Texas becomes a superstar and finds herself at the mercy of cads and leeches and rapacious relatives feeding off her fame and fortune. That was the made-for-tabloids tale of Anna Nicole Smith, the statuesque siren who died at age 39 under mysterious circumstances in a Florida hotel room a year ago tomorrow. Now many Hollywood watchers fear Britney Spears — another small-town girl remade into an icon — might be following the same tragic script as her life spirals out of control. Spears, 26, was released Wednesday from the mental ward at UCLA Medical Center after undergoing a week of treatment. "Vulnerable stars are often taken advantage of," said Rob Shuter, deputy editor of OK! magazine. "The amount of control that certain managers and so-called friends have shouldn't be underestimated," Smith's svengali was lawyer Howard K. Stern. Her body was not yet cold when he claimed to be the father of her infant daughter, Dannielynn, who stood to inherit her mom's millions. A DNA test revealed the real dad was another shifty character named Larry Birkhead. Spears appears to have a Stern problem of her own, a manager named Osama Lutfi, who has drugged her, called her a "whore" and has tried to impose total control over her life, her parents have charged in court papers. "It's clear that Sam had a huge impact in Britney's life, acting as the gatekeeper to the troubled star," Shuter said. When Smith and Stern lived together, he was in control of all of the former Playboy playmate's meds. Even the prescriptions for her anti-depressants and sleeping pills were in his name. In her restraining order against Lutfi, Spears' mother, Lynne, claimed Lutfi is managing her daughter's meds. "He told me if he weren't in the house to give Britney her medicine, she would kill herself," Lynne Spears insisted.Lutfi also claimed he ground up Britney's pills and put them in her food to keep her quiet — and imposed Continue Reading

Britney Spears not so pop tardy

Britney Spears was the prompt princess Monday. The pop star showed up on time for a deposition at her ex-hubby's lawyer's office, spending two hours being questioned in her ongoing child custody feud. Wearing jeans and a dark blue top and accompanied by her de facto manager, Osama Lutfi, Spears drove up to lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan's Los Angeles office at 10:40 a.m. While the focus of the deposition was unclear, People magazine reported she was expected to be grilled on her past drug and alcohol use. Her appearance signaled she may be working on changing her reputation as a tardy pop tart. In recent weeks, the 26-year-old has blown off a string of court dates, including one on Jan. 14 that was crucial to her winning back visitation rights with sons Jayden James, 1, and Sean Preston, 2. Spears made it to the courthouse late, but fled claiming the horde of paparazzi scared her. Speaking of paparazzi, Spears' paparazzo-turned-boyfriend, Adnan Ghalib, was missing from her side Monday, adding credence to reports the lovebirds have split. An L.A. police spokeswoman denied a report Spears sought a restraining order on Ghalib. Sources claim Spears dumped Ghalib when she got wise that he and his photo agency were using his inside information to set up exclusive photos. News of the breakup came as Ghalib's estranged wife, AzLynn Berry, publicly warned her two-timing spouse not to even think of marrying Spears. "The only way he'll marry her is over my dead body," Berry told "Access Hollywood." "We were living together as man and wife when he started romancing Britney." Some moms defend Britney Spears’ nudity around her kids

Britney Spears may not be mom of the year. She parties, she smokes, and now a Los Angeles Superior Court judge has demanded she take random drug tests. But according to claims by former bodyguard Tony Barretto, the pop star's nudity in front of sons Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 1, is one of the bigger causes for concern. Barretto was brought into the custody battle by Brit's ex Kevin Federline, alleging "nudity, drug use and safety issues post-rehab." But is a parent's nudity around children that young really such a big deal? Not according to some moms. "When your kids are under 2, it's near impossible to use the bathroom or the shower without a pint-size audience. So avoiding nudity is extremely difficult," says Jen Singer, mother of two boys and creator of MommaSaid.net, a humor site for stay-at-home moms. "My boys would run around with their diapers off and think nothing of it, so why would they notice if I was naked?" Romi Lassally, founder of the online confessional TrueMomConfessions.com, agrees. "If you go on my site, you see that moms are doing a lot of things in the nude," says the mother of three. "They're actually just being resourceful. They're getting so much bleach on their clothing that they're just cleaning in the nude!" Vicki Panaccione, child psychologist and founder of the Better Parenting Institute, has a similar take. She finds that disrobing in front of children of such a young age is unlikely to harm their development. "At 1 or 2 years old, it really isn't a factor. They're not into noticing differences. When there starts to be a question is when we start teaching children to keep their own body parts private, start teaching modesty," she explains. New York City psychologist Jean Cirillo agrees that occasional parental nudity is "okay through the first couple of years of a child's development," as long as activities that are strictly for adults remain behind closed doors. While that might be a given for most moms, Continue Reading

MTV lectures Britney Spears to behave on VMAs

LAS VEGAS - It could be the beginning of her comeback - or the end of it. When Britney Spears takes center stage tonight at the MTV Video Music Awards, she returns to the scene of past triumphs. If she does well, her performance of "Gimme More" could reinvigorate her shaky career. But if she flops, it will be before the whole world - and if she acts out before her sound check, she might not even get a chance to perform.Sources told the Daily News that MTV has already lectured Spears to behave in Las Vegas or risk her spot in the lineup."Britney knows she's on thin ice. When they agreed to the performance, they sat her down and told her she should not be going out, and instead focus on rehearsing and resting," an insider said. "She seemed to be thankful and appreciative for the chance, but who knows with her? MTV made it clear that her usual behavior will not be tolerated."Her antics in the past year have included a rampage of public appearances without underwear, shaving her head, attacking a car with an umbrella, a stint in rehab, and skirmishes with ex-hubby Kevin Federline over her alleged neglect of their two sons.Spears arrived in Sin City late last week, and she's been running through her routine at the Palms, where the VMAs will be held. But it hasn't been all work and no party. The pop tart was spotted sipping a frozen margarita before her VMA rehearsal Friday. Then Spears showed up at Snoop Dogg's bash at Body English in the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino about 1 a.m. yesterday in a cute, black strapless dress. She had her people immediately call man-of-the-moment Criss Angel to meet her, sources said. Spears has denied the two are dating. One source said, "She's totally phoning this in. She doesn't seem to care how this goes. She's been drinking a bunch and not putting her all into rehearsing."But Spears' cousin and assistant Alli Simms dismissed such talk. Billboard Music Awards: Britney Spears, Iggy Azalea perform ‘Pretty Girls’ on TV for the first time

Britney Spears and Iggy Azalea's out of this world performance at the Billboard Music Awards was totally an '80s flashback. Much like their music video for "Pretty Girls," the artists kept with the alien theme throughout. The performers were surrounded by people in bright colored '80's gear as they were beamed onto stage at the beginning of the performance. Spears proved that her body is better than ever, donning a tight body suit that only covered up parts that it had to for television. Azalea took home top rap song during the awards show Sunday night for her song "Fancy" alongside Charli XCS. This was the first time the artists' song "Pretty Girls" was performed on TV.
