Better luck next time for a losing Republican presidential candidate? Photo: J. Scott Applewhite/Pool/Getty Images There is a lot of angst in Republican Establishment circles over the 45th president’s reported rant at a Republican donor conference near his Florida home over the weekend. Trump is apparently still furious at Brian Kemp for impeding his election coup, and Mike Pence for failing to steal a second term for him anyway, and at Mitch McConnell for refusing to back his electoral vote challenge and then criticizing him for inciting a riot. To Republicans who aren’t deep in the fever swamps of MAGA-land, this is just Trump continuing his narcissistic and destructive post-election behavior. Just as he blew up those crucial Georgia Senate runoffs in January because he couldn’t let go of his own lies about the presidential election, he’s blowing up the party at a time when the GOP needs to stay unified in the fight against Biden . And to those of us without a betting … [Read more...] about Will Republicans Try Another Election Coup in 2024?
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) claimed the January 6 Capitol rioters would have “had a battle on their hands” if they messed with her, adding that she is “a street fighter.” “That’s what they were setting out to do,” Pelosi told USA Today , adding the rioters had intended to access herself and other targets such as former Vice President Mike Pence. She added that if they had reached her, she would not have been someone to mess around with. “Well, I’m pretty tough. I’m a street fighter. They would have had a battle on their hands,” she continued. Members of Congress had to evacuate the scene in gas masks after a violent mob took over the U.S. Capitol building. Pence, in his duty as vice president and president of the Senate, was overseeing proceedings to certify Joe Biden’s electoral victory. The chaos resulted in five deaths, including U.S. Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick. … [Read more...] about Nancy Pelosi Says She Would Have Fought Capitol Rioters: ‘I’m a Street Fighter’
Federal prosecutors will not charge a U.S. Capitol Police officer who shot Ashli Babbitt when she was entering the Capitol on January 6 through a broken door. Babbitt, a 35-year-old Air Force veteran, was unarmed. Another Capitol Police officer, Brian Sicknick, died the day after he confronted protesters on January 6, but the exact cause of death has not been made public. The Associated Press (AP) reported on the development: The Justice Department’s decision, though expected, officially closes out the investigation. Prosecutors said they had reviewed video of the shooting, along with statements from the officer involved and other officers and witnesses, examined physical evidence from the scene and reviewed the autopsy results. “Based on that investigation, officials determined that there is insufficient evidence to support a criminal prosecution,” the department said in a statement. Video clips posted online depict Babbitt, wearing a stars and stripes backpack, … [Read more...] about Capitol Police Officer Will Not Face Federal Charges for Shooting Ashli Babbitt on January 6
William “Billy” Evans, the Capitol Police officer who died in a car attack at a security barricade outside the Capitol this month, laid in honor in the Capitol Rotunda on Tuesday. Evans, 41, was killed on April 2 when a man rammed his car into a Senate-side security checkpoint, crashing into him and another Capitol Police officer stationed there. Evans is the second Capitol Police officer to receive the rare honor this year, underscoring the series of tragedies endured by the police force this year starting with the Jan. 6 insurrection. ADVERTISEMENT He is also just the sixth person in U.S. history to lie in honor — the designation for private citizens — in the Capitol Rotunda. Evans served as a Capitol Police officer for 18 years and was a father of two young children. His children, nine-year-old Logan and seven-year-old Abigail, both clutched stuffed animals as pallbearers carried their father’s flag-draped casket up the Capitol’s east center front steps and … [Read more...] about Capitol Police officer killed in car attack lies in honor in Capitol Rotunda
Tuesday on FNC’s “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” host Tucker Carlson opened his program by reacting to an announcement earlier in the day that health officials were recommending to halt the distribution of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. Carlson said overall, the announcement warranted skepticism about the vaccine’s efficacy and pointed to remarks from Biden health adviser Anthony Fauci and CDC director Rochelle Walensky. Transcript as follows: CARLSON: We’ve heard an awful lot about the coronavirus vaccine over the last several months. It’s a massive achievement as a scientific matter, something all Americans can be proud of, but that’s not the context in which we’ve heard about it. Joe Biden’s first speech to the country urged the entire population to take this vaccine immediately. The celebrity industrial complex has reinforced that demand ever since, “Get the shot. Get the shot. Get the shot.” OK, we will. We’re not against it on principle. Like almost every American, … [Read more...] about FNC’s Carlson: Maybe the Vaccine Doesn’t Work and They’re Simply Not Telling You That
