BOSTON (CBS) — Boston is paying a special tribute to actor Leonard Nimoy, who would have turned 90 years old later this month. Mayor Marty Walsh is declaring his birthday, March 26, to be “Leonard Nimoy Day” in the city. Nimoy, who died in 2015, was born in Boston’s West End neighborhood. He’ll always be remembered for portraying the logical, pointy-eared Spock in “Star Trek,” and embracing the Vulcan character’s “live long and prosper” motto. I grew up in Boston. CHARLESTOWN (CBS) — Boston police are investigating an early morning shooting in Charlestown that left a man dead. A crime scene response truck and police tape could be seen on Mystic Place, a small dead-end road off Cook Street. Boston Police Charge Uber Driver Kamal Essalak With Kidnapping Female Passenger
BOSTON (CBS) – An Uber driver has been arrested and charged with kidnapping after a disturbing incident in Brighton last week. Kamal Essalak, 47, of Acton was arrested Saturday on a warrant. Boston Police said a woman called them around 8:30 p.m. last Thursday in the area of Commonwealth Avenue. She said she had requested a ride and got into the car, which police said was being driven by Essalak. When Essalak stopped, the woman said she tried to get out but couldn’t because the child safety locks were on in both rear doors. “As the victim began to scream and bang on the glass in an attempt to draw attention to the unfolding situation, the suspect began to climb into the rear passenger area of the vehicle, laughing periodically,” Boston Police said in a statement. BOSTON (CBS) – Boston’s new acting Mayor Kim Janey began her first historic day in office by going back to school. Janey, a Roxbury resident, went to the Edwards Middle School in Charlestown Tuesday morning for a brief visit. She was a student there as a child.
