U.S. District Judge Michael Shipp dismissed a lawsuit Thursday by President Donald Trump’s campaign and other Republican groups that tried to stop New Jersey’s statewide mail-in voting program. Shipp rejected the campaign’s request for an injunction to stop the statewide order that allows election officials to count mail-in ballots 10 days before Election Day and accept unpostmarked ballots up to two days afterwards, according to Bay News 9 . The campaign sued in August, claiming Democratic New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy’s executive order, which also sent ballots to every voter in the state, would create widespread voter fraud. Shipp said the plaintiffs “fail to establish they are likely to succeed on the merits of their claims.” “It is difficult – and ultimately speculative – to predict future injury from evidence of past injury,” Shipp wrote Thursday, per the same report. Earlier this month, Shipp denied the campaign a preliminary injunction after the … [Read more...] about US District Judge Dismisses Trump Campaign Suit Challenging Mail-In Voting Ballot Deadline

Apple CEO Blasts Georgia Voting Law, But Has Stayed Silent On Chinese Repression
Apple CEO Tim Cook on Thursday criticized a new voting law in Georgia, even though the multi-trillion-dollar tech company has repeatedly accommodated the Chinese government’s requests to censor content, including during pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong. “Apple believes that, thanks in part to the power of technology, it ought to be easier than ever for every eligible citizen to exercise their right to vote,” Cook told Axios in an interview about the Georgia bill, which was signed into law on Friday. Democrats and several major corporations have blasted the Georgia law, alleging that it will make it harder for Georgians, especially minorities, to vote. President Joe Biden has called it “Jim Crow in the 21st century,” in reference to segregation-era laws that discriminated against African-Americans in the South. Opponents have been especially critical of a provision that requires an ID to obtain an absentee ballot. Defenders of the bill have noted that other states … [Read more...] about Apple CEO Blasts Georgia Voting Law, But Has Stayed Silent On Chinese Repression
Judge Orders New Election In Paterson, NJ, Because Of Mail-In Voting Fraud
A state superior court judge ruled Wednesday that a new election will be held for a disputed Paterson, New Jersey city council seat after allegations of voter fraud via mail-in-ballots. The ruling comes only weeks after voter fraud charges were brought against the May 12 election winner Alex Mendez, per the Associated Press. Mendez was charged with voter fraud along with Paterson Council Vice President Michael Jackson, Shelim Khalique and Abu Rayzen — all of whom have denied the charges, according to The Hill. An investigation performed by the U.S. Postal Service’s law enforcement arm found hundreds of mail-in ballots in a Paterson mailbox, as reported by the AP. Ultimately, 800 ballots were discounted by the Passaic County Board of Elections and another 2,300 ballots were rendered ineligible after analyzing signatures on file and comparing them to those on the ballots, according to the Hill. A Passaic County report shows that these 3,100 disqualified … [Read more...] about Judge Orders New Election In Paterson, NJ, Because Of Mail-In Voting Fraud

‘Gawker’ Movie Canceled After Tim Cook Found Out About It
Apple TV was making a show about Gawker Media, but it was canceled once Apple CEO Tim Cook found out about it. Apple had completed several episodes of the show, called “Scraper,” when Cook sent out an email expressing a negative view of Gawker, the New York Times reported. Two people briefed on the email told the Times that Cook was surprised to hear that Apple TV was making the show. Shortly after the email was sent, Apple stopped production. Cook’s distaste for Gawker likely began when the company outed him as gay in 2008. In 2010, Gawker clashed with Apple after they were able to get a prototype of the iPhone 4, which Cook pleaded to get back, according to the Times. Police even raided an editor’s house trying to find it. Gawker filed for bankruptcy in 2016 after a lawsuit secretly filed by entrepreneur Peter Thiel was brought against the company.
