The Fresno State equestrian team has announced a major shift in direction. Having competed in its final season with the United Equestrian Conference this year, athletic director Terry Tumey announced in a news release on Thursday that the program will shift to the Big 12 Conference as an affiliate member. Rumor of the transfer to the Big 12 was first reported by The Collegian in February, when Tumey was quoted as saying, “We have expressed an interest to the Big 12 Conference office for our equestrian program to become an affiliate member of the Big 12 and we anticipate a resolution on the topic later this spring.” That initial interest turned into a reality as Fresno State’s membership will be effective immediately for the upcoming 2019-20 academic year. The addition of the Bulldogs to the league returns the Big 12 Conference Equestrian Championships to a playoff format in which each of the four teams will compete in semifinal matches for a chance to compete in a … [Read more...] about Fresno State’s Big 12 expansion continues by adding equestrian

By Jon Wilner | [email protected] | Bay Area News Group PUBLISHED: February 26, 2019 at 6:59 am | UPDATED: February 26, 2019 at 7:27 am Imagine a world in which Oklahoma’s non-conference lineup consists of Arizona, USC and Utah — yes, all in the same season — while Washington’s three out-of-league opponents that year are Oklahoma State, TCU and Iowa State. Meanwhile, Texas plays Oregon, UCLA and Colorado. The Ducks? They get Texas, Kansas State and Texas Tech. In this world, the Big 12 and the Pac-12 are bound together by a strategic alliance in which all available non-conference dates are filled by teams from the other league. No more FCS cupcakes. No more Group of Five opponents. It’s one Power Five against another: 30 head-to-head matchups, season after season. The plan is radical enough that it would be easy to dismiss categorically, save for the identity of the author (a former Big 12 president) and his inspiration (a current Big 12 … [Read more...] about Former Big 12 president proposes strategic alliance with the Pac-12: The conferences should embrace the future together
The Fresno State equestrian team is planning a move to the Big 12 Conference starting next season, according to the Assistant Director of Communications for the team Travis Blanshan. The move will transfer the Bulldog equestrian team from their conference, the United Equestrian Conference, to the Big 12 Conference. Fresno State’s Athletic Director Terry Tumey also commented about how and when the move will happen. “We have expressed an interest to the Big 12 Conference office for our equestrian program to become an affiliate member of the Big 12 and we anticipate a resolution on the topic later this spring,” Tumey said. “We are thrilled to compete in the conferences we are currently affiliated with and we look forward to continuing to establish competitive rivalries with our peer institutions.” Fresno State, which is currently ranked No. 9 in the nation, will be sharing the conference with teams like Texas Christian University, Baylor University and … [Read more...] about Big 12 Expansion?

This edition, from Dec. 21, has been made available on the Hotline in archived form, with an update in the introductory section … There has been a marked uptick in College Football Playoff expansion chatter since Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott last commented on the issue (at the Pac-12 title game). His peers in the ACC, Big 12, Big Ten and SEC have all weighed in, each expressing a sentiment that seems to suit his membership’s best interest. The ACC and SEC, which play eight-game conference schedules, have placed a team in the event all five years and seem quite content with the current system. The Big 12 and Big Ten, which play nine-game conference schedules (as does the Pac-12), have … [Read more...] about Hotline newsletter: The Big 12 and Big Ten pivoting to an eight-team playoff faster than the Pac-12
George Schroeder USA TODAY Published 5:06 PM EST Nov 10, 2018 It seems only fitting that the weirdest arrangement in college football – a conference championship game played in a league that already has a full round-robin schedule – could feature a rematch only eight days after the teams’ first meeting. Welcome to the Big 12, where in pursuit of the College Football Playoff, the zany becomes routine. In case you haven’t heard, Oklahoma and West Virginia are barreling toward a regular-season meeting on Nov. 23 in Morgantown. But after a super-cool night kickoff on Black Friday, it’s very possible the Sooners and Mountaineers could then reconvene Dec. 1 in Arlington, Texas. That isn’t set in stone, of course. With three games left, nothing is. But even as Oklahoma and West Virginia are both in the playoff conversation, the league is thisclose to what might be a nightmare scenario. It’s not hard at all to envision the Big 12, … [Read more...] about Big 12 schedule may hurt College Football Playoff chances
